Description Everyone remembers the magically haunting art of Stephen Gammell from Alvin Schwartz's "Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark" series of books from the 90s. This Compilation is my homage to the images that captivated me as a little kid. The images I chose to include are my favorites, with my two absolute favorites being the girl with the spiders on her face and the freakishly pale woman with the long face to her left.

Let me know if you'd like an 11x17" printout of this.

"from the 90s" meaning from 1981 to 1991
sorry, I have an insane habit for correcting people

Really cool work though. Those two would definitely be some of my favorites.
The one I remember the most when I was little was Me-Tie-Do-Ty-Walker, which now when I look back at is actually pretty stupid. But it was the first story in the book I read and that weird saying sounded pretty scary in my head.

The (in)famous scarinesss of the pictures got me wondering. How did they advertise for these books? What did the commercials sound like? O.o

"Hey, kids! Stephen King getting too boring for ya? Then check out Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark! Sure, the stories aren't much, but the pictures are *so* scary, you'll need a miracle to sleep in your own bed instead of your parents'! You must be at least this crazy to read. *shows a picture of Groundskeeper Willie*"

Does anyone know how this man made these? I own the books and always looked close at them. It looks like its more than just pencil. Was it pencil or maybe even watercolor? I am inspired by his work and would love to know?

I love Mr. Gammell's art style. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have become a horror film addict

I think the story that really scared me was the one about the dress, I think that was the reason I didn't want to go to Prom, my mind reminded meΒ of that story X'D

I think The wolf girl is a true story beacuse when a child parents died like a new born baby the animals know that they need a mom and dad beacuse they know how we feel they got feelings like us. And I sick of people hunting these creatures and captureing every one that got rasied by an animal

I don't think monsters come after people who misspell "events".

It sucks how they replaced the original artwork in the books with some pictures that aren't even remotely terrifying.

Man, the Red Spot drawing was so creepy (and still is). It's not even the spiders, it's the girl that is scary. She just looks so wrong....from her facial structure to her eyes, everything is wrong and I love it!

The stories wernt scary in the least but the artwork..... I still love the illustrations just like I did as a child!
When I was a child, reading those books in a heavily religious school and neighborhood provided some of the best memories of my life HAHA
