Description
Recently I have been accused that I trace, I will not say who accused me or what image is "traced" (it will be easy to figure out who accused me then) but I am not going to let this go until I make sure everyone knows that I do not trace (it was written in a public journal, he/she thankfully removed the remark after I requested him/her to but I know some people had to have seen it) and I work extremely hard to get every angle, hoof, leg, and face right. SO I created this little tutorial lookin' thing to show everyone my process of how I draw lineart and sketch. I used a wolf because I am much more familiar with canine anatomy, where as horses take longer and I didn't have that time with finals.1. First I get the basic movements of the spine and limbs.
2. First initial sketch, crappy right?
3-7. I continually fix my mistakes by looking back at the image and back at my sketch, and I usually step away from the image for a while to get fresh eyes. The main mistakes are the head, right foreleg and how fluffy this guy is. I have to add so much fluff from my original sketch lol. The head was too small, the neck too short and thin, the leg too high up, the other foreleg was a little too long. The leg and head were REALLY annoying to get right.
8. By the end of 7 my sketch is so messy I need a clean slate, so I use a preliminary lineart to compare everything again. Some parts are still off slightly and I fix them in this lineart and in step 9.
9. My final lineart with details is done. This is what I will color. NOW if you overlay this, you can argue that I traced it. It is SO close to the original image, overlay it yourself if you don't believe me.
But the thing is I didn't trace it. Look at the first sketch overlay. It's no where near traced.
So there is my argument. CollidingStars, Tara, whatever you call me by doesn't trace!
Also, if I did trace why would I willingly put the image I used to reference in the artists comments? Just saying.
By submitting this I don't mean to insinuate that tracing is BAD. Tracing is a way to learn how things are supposed to look and I traced things when I was little, I believed it helped me learn. It's not a sin, or a crime, it's a way to learn. But I'm not going to get into outside tracing issues now, and this is not the place to discuss it.
I posted this because I don't want to get accused of tracing again when I work so hard to get everything right. In a competition that doesn't allow tracing I could be disqualified from because my lineart is so accurate. I don't want to go through that. Not at all. For this wolf here I only spent a few hours on, but on a horse (which is harder for me to draw) I can spend anywhere between 3 and 6 hours on the sketches and lineart alone. I take time out of my busy schedule to escape to make RPG art and I get ridiculed for working extra hard to make it look good to the best of my ability.
So there's my shpeel. I really would not like to see any arguments on the comments, again this is not the place to discuss the issue of tracing in the HARPG. I just wanted to prove that I can draw, and I believe I have. And I have no beef or issues with the person who accused me, it's water under the bridge and there is nothing to be done about it.
Also I would like to thank two very special people who believed in me and helped me through this (I was kinda hysterical when I was accused, heh...), you two know who you are
Peace~"

You know how I feel about this.
Are you going to use the lines from this demonstration? I kinda want to see you finish the piece!

I agree to this fully, i used to use heavy referencing (skeleton tracing) and even heavier if the pose was one i hadn't tried before. i'm not saying i'm proud of it, but it helped me SO much. now i have my own style, it's FAAAR from perfect but i don't mind. So keep up the good work and don't give a crap about those who tell you otherwise
