Description ~ Info and others ~

EN: I've always had mixed feeling about this character... I don't like him that much as a villain/character, but man, I really really like his design. I mean, it's a purple lizard with lots of arms *o* (and villains with bright colors are pretty damn rare, it makes me happy). He was a lot of fun to draw, I'll probably draw him again, along with other Monster inc/Monster University characters.

You know, you just mentioned something I hadn't even thought of, as big a Randall fan as *I* am...Randall's bright colors.  I have never thought of him as a villain, THAT was Waternoose's role in MI and Randall was really no more than a background character in MU, not even that relevant to the plot, but from what Pixar DID show of him in MU, of his REAL personality before life screwed him over and before he let himself be misled by people who did not have his well-being in mind, it does perhaps hint that they plan to continue Randall's story.  There really was no other reason to have included him in MU, since as I said, he wasn't really important to the plot.  He didn't do anything that influenced the main characters' development, BUT he did have a role, and of the characters from the original movie, only Mike, Sulley and Randall were also in MU AND had speaking roles.  MI was Sulley's movie, from his POV, and MU was totally Mike's...so that leaves only one who hasn't gotten  HIS movie yet: Randall. Perhaps there is some symbolism in him having those bright, cheerful colors, quite the contrast from the usual dark villains, and Pixar could be telling us that they plan on giving him a second chance, let his character come full circle, closer to how he was in MU.  Pixar uses a LOT of symbolism in their movies and they don't do anything without a reason, so that could indeed mean something there.

Wow, a big comment *o*

I like the way the characters roles evolved from the original movie to the "sequel". Like, Mike is the hero in MU when he wasn't that important in the original movie. About Randall... I admit, I didn't gave it a lot of thought, but I liked his role in the sequel enough, even if like you said, he was more of a background character than anything.
Now about his colors, it can also be related to the very colorful world the characters lives in: Most of the monsters have bright colors, after all. And Pixar often plays with designs a lot, and make very creative stuff, Randall's design is a good example, it's a really fun design, yet he is an antagonist (you're right, the Boss was the real villain in the end)... I like that a lot.

Anyway, thanks for that big comment, always a pleasure

Yes, Randall is an antagonist in MI, just not an outright villain, and there is a difference between the two, which you seem to "get", unlike most people.  Waternoose was the real villain, the one in charge, who was controlling Randall, making Randall basically just a henchman, and Waternoose was gray and wore black, mostly.  There were no villains at all in MU, just two antagonists, Dean Hardscrabble and Johnny Worthington, both of whom were rather dark-colored, not as brightly-colored as characters like Art, Mike, Sulley, Randall or rest of the Oozma Kappas.  In fact, with the exception of Randall and possibly Reggie, the guys in ROR have a more subdued color scheme compared to the OK's.  Their purples, on characters like Johnny and Javier, are not as bright as Randall's or Art's, and unlike Randall, they are all unicolored.  Randall stands out from the other guys in ROR in many ways, from his diminutive size and build, to his default bright colors and his shy, insecure nature.
