WAY's design is lovely. It's a shame that she didn't win the contest just because she uses the Miku Formula
Anyway, 's model is lovely, but has a few details that bugs me, so I asked her for permission to edit it and here's the result!
(BTW yeah, I talked with her and asked about this model. She was ok as long as I fixed the hair physics and voilá!)
Edit: Thanks to a friend of mine, the hair works now perfectly!

I was saying that so what if she's based off of Miku or whatever. people really liked her and it was sad she didnt win just because of that. Like Haku and neru used Miku's voice bank, and they became offical, so I don't see why she lost. People base fanloids off vocaloids all the time and can win contests.

Well way wasn't a fanloid
It was supposed to be a new vocaloid for China, but since Miku was so popular they didn't wanted an army of Miku clones so they didn't chose the ones who had the "miku formula"

I like fixing models too, specially when it comes to physics and rigging parts like hair and stuff. Sometimes it's easier than making your own model and the results might look even better than the original one. If you are lucky, the modeler might let you distribute it too
If someone fix or repairs one of my models I'll gladly let him/her distribute it. My models are not perfect so I thank every kind of help~

I like to just pass them back to the original editor with a note saying "Thanks for letting me play in your backyard!"
If they want to release the upgrade, crediting me is not necessary, and if they say I can re-release it, even more fun! ^_^
I'm the same way - my models were especially created for others to edit as they please or just use right out of the box as-is, so I'm always happy when someone cares enough about one of my models to work on her!
I can't wait for your WAY. I still have the original, and really look forward to pairing them up in a dance-off!

Me too me too. I'm not ok distributing something without the consent of the original author. Also I send the edit to the modeler and ask If they want me to distribute it or they prefer to do it.
I'm not very ok with people editing my own personal models even when I allow it (specially when they frankenstein them T_T) but I appreciate a lot when someone tells me about bugs or fixes something. It helps not only me but everyone~

Considering that most of my models are basically Frankensteins themselves, I have no problems with people doing whatever they want with them as long as they follow ALL the model's rules, and that especially includes the original creator's rules.
The thing is, I make some of the parts I use on Tda models myself. For example, I made Convergence Miku V2's new scrunchies. If anyone wants to harvest them and use them on a Kio or a LAT they're more than welcome to as long as they credit me for creating them, but they'd darned well better leave the rest of Tda's parts right the heck where they are unless they plan to use them on another Tda model!
In addition to contacting modelers, I've also gone as far as to contact actual charactor creators. I sent Convergence Neru to Smith-hioka himself [Neru's original craracter creator for those reading this who don't know] for approval - he absolutely loves her and even mentioned her release on his blog, and also thinks that my Convergence Haku is beautiful.
For Convergence Teto I contacted Damesuke of Team Teto and obtained his assistance making sure that all of her documentation was in order. He was even kind enough to provide me with all of her most recently updated readmes from her various modelers to include with her package.
Heck, I even contact editors for permission to translate their models into English just so I can use them.
I DL'd WAY and will put her through her paces as soon as I can find some free time later - really looking forward to her!

well when I say "frankensteining" I talk about those guys that simply change the model's colors or add cat ears and distribute them with a message like: "omg I made a super-duper kawaii desu chan model omg omg omg better than the original one omg omg omg". I don't consider frankensteining those models that seem to have effort put on them. I allow editing my work, but I'm happier when people take effort on editing them

I think you take too much effort on simply crediting O_o
I mean... sometimes It's impossible to talk to the original modelers because... I dunno, they are busy or... they don't answer english/western modelers messages (darn)... or they left their dA account/the MMD world... who knows?
If it's not easy to talk with the original modeler... It might be even worse trying to talk with the original character creator xD
Anyway most of the original modelers include the character creator's rules on theirs, so I think it's not necessary to talk with everyone. I'm okay with giving credits, and If someone has a problem with my work, we'll see what's the matter and I'll fix it...
