Description
Krya finally reaches the end of her rope as the interview falls apart, and she tells Grastly exactly what she thinks of him. It seems that Grastly may have had an ulterior motive (or possibly more) for treating Krya so obnoxiously.OK, so I think I should probably explain a few things about this page.
For starters, some of you might be wondering why Krya didn’t just kick this guy’s ass. Well, as much as he really deserves it, Krya’s just not the type to beat people up just because they were rude to her. She’s a bit too nice for that. But she won’t back down from verbally eviscerating them the way she did here. Besides, what would physically attacking him really accomplish, aside from being confronted by security or the cops? It doesn’t help that Krya, being alien royalty, is entirely out of her element here and doesn’t know how to deal with situations like this. So technically, Grastly always had the upper hand in this scene.
But just because he had a leg up on Krya here doesn’t mean that the balance of power can’t shift sometime later….
Second, as you can plainly see, Grastly is a gatekeeping jackass. I’m not saying this is true of all H.R. managers. But it’s not unheard of for slime balls like Grastly to take advantage of their positions to treat job-seekers like garbage while handing out jobs to their friends like free candy. Believe me, I’ve read several horror stories on job-seeking forums similar to this. In fact, something kind of similar actually did happen to my dad 5 years ago.
It’s also not uncommon for companies to list job openings despite them already being filled. Don’t ask me why.
Most of all, I always intended this scene to be a deconstruction of what society typically thinks getting a job looks like. In America at least, our politicians and corporate-owned media usually make obtaining jobs look as easy as breathing, and if you don’t have a job or can’t get one, well, clearly there must be something wrong with you and you’re a lower form of life!
That’s not necessarily true, especially for those of us who have had to deal with gatekeeping assholes like Grastly or who don’t instinctively know how to handle job interviews such as Krya (or myself for that matter). I already find job interviews difficult and, at times, demeaning processes that don’t guarantee quality workers. Whenever the subject of job interviews come up, I always think of these 2 scenes from The Middle:
m.youtube.com/watch?v=vHJzSpgz…
m.youtube.com/watch?v=DsT1L8oh…
That’s funny: the interviewer in the 2nd clip kinda looks like Grastly.
Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is that the reason I made this job interview scene at all is because I know firsthand how difficult it can actually be to find employment.
And if any of you reading this are struggling to find work yourself, just know that Krya and I have your backs. I know how hard it can be trying to find a job in an economy where it seems like there are too many workers and not enough jobs (and maybe there are). Just keep your chin up and press on! I hope you get to where you want to be soon.
That’s everything I wanted to say. Thank you for your time!
