Description
This was originally for halloween, but it's still pretty early and I wanna fit in as many Halloween-themed drawings as I can. It's my favorite holiday, after all.I think it's kind of cute. ;w;
Pumpkins are waaay harder to draw than I thought they would be, by the way. D:
We have a 3-day weekend, so I'm going to try to fit another drawing in tomorrow morning.

Shading is hard. I can never get it to look smooth and not all smudgy. D:

Here's my technique:
1. I do cel shading (solid shading, which is usually used for shadows) first.
2. To do that, I make another layer directly above the colored one and make it somewhere between 40% and 60% opacity.
3. Then I get a solid black pen tool and do the parts where it's either really dark or a shadow is being cast.
4. You have to keep a consistent light source or else it'll just look muddled.
5. Then I copy the lineart on another layer on top of that one and make it from 50% to 80% opacity to do the soft shading.
6. I use the paint tool to completely fill up the lineart, and make sure you can see the drawing underneath so it's not too dark.
7. I get a soft brush with a reeeaally low opacity and erase away the filled in parts where there would be highlights or brighter spots.
8. The result is a really nice, smooth gradient with some sharper shadows here and there.
