Being a balance keeper with… quirks, I never did believe in karma. Karma was a thing humans used as a false hope that something bad would eventually happen to a bad person and that if you did enough good things, good things would come to you eventually. However, being the one who keeps both positive and negative energy in balance I know that bad things happen when Syndrome is sick and Raven is having… that… time of the month, whereas good things happen when Raven is at her weakest point energy wise and Syndrome is thriving, normally around the Christmas period...
Though with how things are right now, I am starting to wonder about the concept of karma... There is no way to prove nor disprove its existence. Karma could just be the word humans use to explain these energy surges, though with the way a lot of them throw the word around you would soon assume it was the name of a higher being... I guess in a way I am the living karma system... balance keeper sounds better.
The reason such a subject is on my mind is because of an experience I was forcefully made to witness just last week... It was a normal evening on the ship, I was meditating in peace since Airstrike was on cleaning detail with Bullet. I felt like things were going too well... then I was struck with a sudden pain in the helm, a sign that the two beings that rent space in my CPU were about to bother me with something. Sighing, I concentrated hard, becoming the third voice in the void.
‘What do you want…’
‘Hey Titorun.’
Brilliant, it was the negative energy being, the second chaos bringer that should have been… at least the positive one tried to keep things on the straight and narrow and most of the time tried to show me important things or give me helpful tips, the chaotic being wanted nothing more than to see me suffer for existing instead of him. After all, I was a mistake…
‘You’ve been sitting cosy for too long, I’m bored. I wanna show you something. Time for a lesson!’
The pain amplified as the being forcefully took control of my abilities, like he did every time he wanted to 'show me something'. I remember yelling and hearing the orbs I use to keep my energies level shatter onto the ground as they plummeted from their floating position, my wings felt like they were on fire as I was suddenly ripped through a dimensional vortex.
I had used such things before, numerous times in fact, but never to go as far back as he was taking me… the pain was immense, I felt like my spark was slowly being pierced, my frame pulled from several directions all at once and my helm, oh Primus my helm hurt so badly I could barely stay online.
We seemed to fall for what felt like hours, then suddenly the physical pain ended, for a moment at least before I was spat out and tossed into a pile of metal crates like a broken datapad. Coughing, I emerged from the debris, a trickle of energon leaking from my arm where it had caught on the edge of one of the large boxes, smoke rising from my sore frame since we had passed through many timelines at a very high speed. My helm was still pounding, I couldn’t get my bearings on where I was, something about my location was off, way off. It felt… like I shouldn’t of been there. I didn’t know this reality, this timeline...
“Whos there!? Show yourself!”
That voice… the insecure yet stern tone, the unsure squeak at the end like a human teenager going through puberty. I would recognise it anywhere…
“...Airstrike?”
My voice sounded weak and croaky, it gave away the pain I was feeling from the sensation in my CPU but I didn't care, I felt so weak and lightheaded... As the jet in question turned the corner, I felt his energies. They were… different. The mix of positive and negative was completely off, it didn't feel like it was my brother at all. He didn’t feel confident, happy and content with life, he felt… abandoned? Alone? Insecure?
As he spied my frame, the gun he held clattered to the floor as he ran over. I felt him touch my arm, the hiss I responded with made the servos quickly recoil. His wings twitched, mine responded with the same movement.
“W-who are you?”
‘Oh that is so cute, he's like a lost sparkling… well Titorun, you better reply to him, don't keep your brother waiting!’
‘Where have you brought me…’
‘Ha ha have you not figured it out yet!? Geez for someone who spends so much time learning you sure are slow! Can't you feel it in your spark!? How misplaced you are!?’
“Airstrike i-it’s me… your brother…”
“...Nightshift?”
That is when it struck me. My spark felt like it had suddenly been pierced with a burning shard of metal, I felt like I was going to purge, all the while the voice was laughing maniacally in my helm…
I tensed when I realised my brothers hand had moved, he rose it to my faceplates on either side of my visor before carefully unclipping it, revealing my damaged optics. As the artificial light hit my sensors I couldn’t help but flinch and try to turn away but I didn’t have the strength to escape its piercing glare. A gasp passed his vocaliser, a faint sound of hope before I heard him shout for Bullet to get a medic, desperation in his voice as his optics glazed over, he let me go and quickly stood.
‘This is an alternate dimension where you don’t exist anymore Titorun. You died many vorns ago on a mission to rescue Skartplug from the Kenkai… everyone that once knew you has forgotten that you were alive, you’ve been completely wiped from existence. Any evidence that you were ever here vanished when Fenairs sword pierced your spark. Even your own brother… he thinks he only has one sibling and he has been missing ever since he was a sparkling. He thinks he has been alone his entire life with no one but Bullet to call family. How pathetic.'
‘Why did you bring me here…’
‘Because I wanted to show you how feeble and meaningless your life is, when you die you won’t go to the pit or to the gates, ha you don't even get to experience limbo… you’ll just vanish from existence like a mistake being erased on a test.’
Time around us had stopped. I shakily put my visor back on and looked up to see my brother frozen in mid step, Bullet and Skartplug just visible at the half opened door. Wincing, I pushed myself up and stumbled over to the wall, wings flicking as they gave me digital images of my surroundings. My spark felt like it was going to tear, it wanted to, I shouldn’t be alive in this dimension it was throwing all of the balance out of line.
‘Well, I better get you home before this place crashes in on itself from the anomaly.’
‘...He won’t remember this, will he?’
‘Nah, the dimension will roll back to his last recharge cycle, he’ll think it was a dream. Whelp, lets go!’
And just like that, we were off again, being dragged through the numerous hoops that made up the dimensional multiverse. The journey back wasn't as painful as the one there, however it was enough to send me offline whilst the voice laughed and told me how pathetic I was... the next thing I knew, I was in medbay, Airstrike sitting next to me. He'd gotten off duty and found me collapsed in my room, my orbs shattered around my frame. Skartplug had told him that I had overexerted myself and crashed from the pressure. A decent enough excuse to keep my brother calm...
