So finally created my mermaid OC. I know her name sounds cheesy cuz it kinda looks like 'mermaid', but trust me when I say it's a name I've liked since forever. She is ancient, and big. I mean HUGE. GIANT. Also, she is based off of a dunkleosteus. Hmm, here are a few things about her. Her hair has lost most, if not all, of its shine over time. It also contains many things in it, since they tend to get caught! The most common things would be algae and coral, but fossils can also be found, I'm sure. When you are eons old, maintaining your hair is one of the lowest priorities.

The 'mask' is actually her face. It cannot be removed, so the eye placement would be where her actual eyes are. Most of the time, she keeps her eyes slightly closed so as not to spook the smaller and/or younger ones. Despite her size, she tries to be as gentle as she possibly can, even offering shelter to others in her hair!

Her hands are covered in many scars, gained with years and years of tearing into her prey. Of course, they won't die without a fight, so her hands get the worst of it!

The charm she has on her collar is actually a smooth stone she found ages ago. The mermaid that's depicted is actually one of those brass/metal mermaids that some pirate ships used to have at the front of the hull, so she just placed it in the middle. You can now kind of imagine how big she is with that! Her top is actually made by her, using the discarded sail cloth from sunken ships.

She very rarely swims up to the surface, since she's a bit nervous about it. Other merfolk have talked about the dangers of it, so if she were to try it, I'm sure the humans would absolutely freak.

Lastly, something she doesn't talk about much. One of the things she yearns for the most is being a mother. She lays eggs every 50 years or so, but she keeps them a bit hidden because she is kind of shy about them not being fertilized by anyone. Sailors and pirates would oftentimes steal them from her lair, call them 'giant pearls', and do whatever humans do with them, so since then she's laid them deeper in the trenches. To her, the eggs are tiny though. She is in mourning for a month or so as her eggs wither up and become useless.
