Scene from our roleplaying evening of Call of Cthulhu - Masks of Nyarlathotep

WARNING: Spoilers for the RP adventure. Don't continue reading, if you do not want to be spoilered!

PC Hans Dietrich von Riedel, PC Elias Jackson and PC Archibald Oaktree have distrusted their expedition leader since the discovery of his sickness and his rotting clothes in his stinking room. They all have warned nurse Jenny O'Riley for days now and even sworn her in on having a morhpine shot ready to take him out, just in case since the incident with the vampire attacking their camp at night. Now Larkin has turned insane and ordered them to go into the pyramid at all cost and Jenny has activated the fallback plan on Elias' and Archibald's sign, ramming the injection with the morphine into her patient's body. But instead of collapsing his eyes turn completely black and the voice resounding from his mouth is inhuman. The hired hand draws his knife and tries to physically attack the monster but gets thrown back and injured in a single swift motion of the gaunt man. For the first time, Jenny fears not only for her life, but her very soul, grasping the cross and the amulet the young Japanese has given her for protection with equal desperation.

Her prayers are answered a mere second later, when the head of monster that has little of a human left explodes into a mush of blood, brain and bone fragments. Creaming at the top of her lungs, she hears the German Captain shout "It's over. He's dead!", as he lowers his rifle. Quinn appears a bit flustered, as his first two shots have missed their target and barely grazed the suit of the monster Jackson Elias already starts to search. "Burn the body!", Hans orders the hired helper, as he walks toward his injured partner to provide him with first aid which the shell shocked nurse is currently unable to give.
