you might be interested in knowing that German standard boots switched to ankle boots with wrapping in 1942, after Leather began to run short, and the jackboot proved to be useless in keeping out the Russian cold.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of this. Still, all in all if it was a TV episode, I think the directors would prefer jackboots-more iconic and such-so I guess I took an inadvertent creative license with that. Also, I kind of have the whole "he hates jackboots" running gag, so I threw that in there as well.
All in all, what did you think of Past Sins/Paperclip?

quite in keeping with your character, i must say, though i would wonder why someone would go into a Historical era and not carry a weapon that he would be able to provide Ammunition for. I'm a bit of a gun buff, so i know about certain weapons that would still fit the Commodore's needs. a Sten with a snail mag modification, it's German copy, or even a Mauser M1932 Schnellfeuer: quite fitting alternatives.
granted, i understand your preferences, but i question the logic. the Commodore is obviously a History buff, i would think that he would know not to carry an anachronistic weapon. he's not Andries Rhoodie, after all.

Ahem...
Right. I didn't consider the ammo issue admittedly; I wanted something that would stick out so Von Braun would notice and become suspicious of the OC. So logically yes, you're quite right, if he was really going to be spending any length of time there he'd use something more practical. I erred towards the rule of cool over practicality for the purpose the story.
Though I suppose one could rationalize that he could always pop back into Emby for half a minute and restock.

mayhaps.
as for HT, i've only read Guns of the South, Man w/ the Iron heart, and the first two of the "Hitler's War" arc, though i am aware of the American Empire timeline.
