As the first destroyer designed and commissioned for the Greater Royal Navy for the Confederated Kingdoms, the S class destroyers are some of the first CK naval vessels to exhibit what would go on to become distinctive characteristics for the next decades of destroyers and light cruisers. With their rough weather bows and enclosed raised poop-decks containing reserves of mines and torpedoes, the S class destroyers fill a unique niche as small all weather vessels capable of defensive and offensive operations. Euphemistically described as “cozy” by their captains and crews, these ships nevertheless have formed the backbone of the small GRN for the last fifteen years, and have filled the role admirably. While the independent navies of the Confederated Kingdoms have opted for larger “in-house” designed destroyers since the introduction of the S class, the Greater Royal Navy has continued to utilize these reliable workhorses, going so far as to purchase a second round of improved Uu class designs in 1931.
