One of my favorites is rendering body armor; whether it be Renaissance style knight armor or futuristic body armor like this. I have found that skin surfaces are actually some of the hardest surfaces to reproduce realistically in any renderer. Metal, plastic, cloth, rubber and glass are much easier and much more convincing to reproduce and make figures look astoundingly real.  I'm still tweaking skin surfaces to determine how to make skin actually look like skin. Once I can figure out the formula for realistic skin surfaces, you'll probably see me rendering more of that kind of work.
