Description This is the most accurate, not to mention the only finished model of the Communication Center (A.K.A. Ops Center) out there.

I love this stuff. The Jurassic Park series has the coolest architecture. Not to mention being the my favorite thing in the world!
Any way, I've been sort of on a JP binge.

So this one was pretty interesting to work on.
First i took as many screen caps from the movie as possible. Went through the production pics and got pictured of the concept art and models. The scoured the net for any and all possible shots taken from the Universal Studios tour. Whats the coolest thing is the building was fully constructed with a full interior and exterior. The unfortunate part is that the set was redressed and altered for JP3, converting it into the Embryonics Administration building. And Now that set is blocked from view by some stupid plane crash set from the "War of the Worlds" remake.
So not only are there basically no good quality shots of it from before it was changed but there arnt and modern shots either. Fortunately the building can still be seen from space. So I used Google Earth to get a satellite photo to use as a reference for the basic shape and layout.

I know I've done the communication center before [link] but that was based on the model from the game "Trespasser". The interesting thing is that these are supposed to be the same building. It's cool to see the way it was simplified.

Oh God, this is the longest description I've ever done. It's all most done...hang in there...

I did have some assistance from a fellow deviant and friend. Mr.Shrike [link]
He was kind enough to model the kick ass venetian blinds for the interior. We'll see those in the next project. So this is my first collaborative project!

All right down to the all important numbers.

Time: Approx 20 hours and still counting

Longshot question, but would be possible to get a copy of the Worker Village models to convert into objects to 3D print? Models look excellent!

Yup that was a longshot lol.

Short answering is I would if I could. This model is almost a decade old (making me feel old) and it's long gone.

You'd be better off modeling your own. Models made for 3D printing have to be made with that intent from the begging.

Good luck!

Looks like the roof is collapsing on one side.

This is an absolutely beautiful render, very accurate!

However, i do have one little nitpick: there's actually two sets of stairs, the one you got, and then another set that starts right after that wrapping ledge thingy. I did the Worker Village map for the JP encyclopedia project ( [link] [link] ) and went through numerous of production photos and images of the set to put it together and have two here that I think will be helpful:

Huh. Must have missed that. Thanks. If I ever update the model I'll be sure to make that correction.

This is what I don't get; Why didn't Eric Kirby walk all the way to the Communication Center in the worker village?! he said in the third movie that he stayed near the compound.

Because the Embryonics Administration building is on the other side of the island from the Worker Camp and the Communications/Operations Center. 1st) It would have meant hiking about five miles through the center of the island. It's mentioned in both JP2 and JP3 that the center of the island is mostly populated with the larger carnivores. 2nd)I highly doubt that Eric would have even been aware of the Communications Center.

There was some confusion about the Embryonics Admin building and the Communications/Operations Center. A lot of people thought it was supposed to be the same building. It is not. Universal reused the Comm Center set and just redressed it as the EA building. This was for cost saving and convenience purposes as the Comm Center set was built and left up at the Universal Studios back lot. In fact it's still there. It could be seen on the tour but there is a fake plane crash blocking the view now. You can see it from satellite photos though.

Here is a map of Sorna with movie events marked. [link]

Hope this helps!

yeah, but still, geothermal power should be still working. the Embryonics Administration building should have been working in that order. and in the book 'surviver' Eric read Ian's book. surly he must have heard something about geothermal power in there.

ComputerGenius In reply to Gloverman23 [2012-03-02 03:11:50 +0000 UTC]

Again, the EA building didn't have a satellite transceiver. He might have been able to turn the power on at the EA building but it was overrun with raptors. Malcolm's books were concerning chaos theory. Since he signed an Non Disclosure Agreement, I doubt InGen's lawyers would have let him do that. Even if he did write about the incident in his book I doubt that he wrote a detailed retelling. And again even if Eric knew of the Ops Center he would know better than to try to cross that much carnivore ridden land.

Gloverman23 In reply to ComputerGenius [2012-03-02 15:21:52 +0000 UTC]

Eric was also unable to find the back-up generators in the EA building. in the 'survivor' book he came across a corridor whith a steel door. but it needed a key card to access it. he tried a window, but still nothing.
Now, judging by the years that door was inside the EA building, he wouldn't have been able to pry it open with crowbar, right?

A "side-along" novel is not canon. Whats more, I looked up the book and it has many inconsistencies with the movie.

Gloverman23 In reply to ComputerGenius [2012-03-02 16:58:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but still....the building's geo-power should last long. the EA building should be runing on it.
Little else is known about the operations center aside from its administrative nature.

ComputerGenius In reply to Gloverman23 [2012-03-02 21:06:52 +0000 UTC]

Yes, there was likely geothermal power still available but who knows what kind of damage/deterioration could have happened in the eight years since it was abandoned.

The operations center was the communications and transportation hub of the island. It was as far as I know the only building equipped with a long range transceiver.

Gloverman23 In reply to ComputerGenius [2012-03-02 22:11:25 +0000 UTC]

but no geo-power to run them. but still, Eric should have explored more of the island, dispite the dinosaurs.

I wouldn't have. I'd have stayed put. I also wouldn't become stranded due to plot convenience.

It was night time with a full moon in the movie. I'm being authentic. However when I modify this building to be the Embryonics Administration from JP3, it will be full daylight.

Actually I won't be doing any more renders of this model until I can get more RAM for my laptop. Apparently 2 GB isn't very much.

Yup. When I get a better computer. I can't render this thing any more because I keep running out of memory.

yea and they still need to make jp4

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ComputerGenius In reply to trex15 [2011-03-11 18:08:41 +0000 UTC]

No they don't. They need to leave well enough alone. They all ready screwed up the series with JP3.
Frankly I'm not to worried because at this point they arnt going to make JP4. JP4 has gone through the kind of crap that "Aliens 3" went through. The script(a SciFi channel quality script concerning mutated dinos/dogs/humans with guns built in. AKA CRAP)has been rewritten and thrown around and rejected. Another problem is the director has his head so far up his ass he can see day light. Joe Johnston. The guy who directed JP3 and "The Pagemaster"(crap). The problem is that he seems to be a friend of Spielberg. And we all know Spielberg can't seem to control him self when it comes to his friends. i.e. George Lucas/Indiana Jones 4.
At any rate it's been pretty much buried for good, with the death of Michael Crichton
