They each have a plague seed, one on Castor's right shoulder, the other on Pollux's right shoulder. It generates a nearly impenetrable field of power from which they can draw energy and protect each other. The plague seeds are their greatest strength, and whittling them down enough to damage the plague seeds is crucial to anyone hoping to defeat them. However, as with any viral general, you need to destroy their Core in order to destroy them for good. Otherwise, they are easily able to reform themselves.
