I used to hate Diamond Tiara until they redeemed her and showed another side to her character and developed her character and made her more likable in Crusaders of the Lost mark
now I like her now that she's reformed and when I saw why she was such a jerk in the past and saw how her mother was to her and how much of a bad influence her mother was and saw that sad part with the sad song pony I want to be I felt sorry for her for the 1st time but I'm glad the cmc helped her reform and gain friends at the end

You know, being bad or being good does not relies on your acts alone. Some people are not given many choices. If you don't know the context, it's difficult to judge. You should try to emphasize and understand. That being said, the show is a good example on why you should do it, everypony have flaws, but no one is truly evil. Pretty much every character have reasons to do good, or bad. But what will define the "jerk" from the good, is the choice they make out of those reasons.
