Description What is this? Shading?!

I just want to address something before I get into the concept here. Firstly, I don't think this is shading done to the best of my current ability (I partly blame being ill and my own skills) but I have tried to imagine the light coming directly above the dragon. It still needs work but I thank trying adoptables, which gave me the confidence to attempt this. Hopefully it won't be the last either. Secondly the hill the dragon is sitting on...should be green. It's come out yellow. This is the joy of having a new printer/scanner! I actually did find a way to tone down the brightness so that the grass was green, but then DA wouldn't let me submit the new image (too bigger file size, I had to do it through windows photos rather than printer because there is no brightness control on there so maybe it was too much to handle or something...I don't know  ).  Until I find the answer to brightness it looks like I'll have to be careful which colours I chose to use in future. Having said that, at least the colours contrast so it will do.

I missed the last Group for Bookwyrms contest so I return to a spring themed one. This is Mei from the Temeraire series. I always imagined that when Temeraire left for home she missed him, so here she is thinking of him, unable to write a scroll to him about anything. I can't remember whether dragons can use quills, or if she even has his address, but I think that if she tried she might not be able to write for a while. For the spring theme, have a blossoming tree, no clouds in the sky and, because it was suggested, a flower crown. I don't think Mei's in the mood to wear it.

Mei was created by Naomi Novik. Please read her books!

I wonder how it's going to write without any opposable thumbs.

I don't know. XD Actually, in the books dragons either get a human to write for them or do it by carving...at least from memory. I can't draw a carving thing (I did try) so scroll will have to do. (Also I don't know why but it seems this reply got copied three times and I can't get rid of them! Well, I guess hiding them will have to do...what were you doing internet?!)

Well, I guess some dragons have the ability to use their magic to write on scrolls. After all, magic is pretty much being to do things you can't actually logically explain!

(I guess deviantART was just glitching? I don't really see the copies.)

True, although in this world they don't have magic, so...guess I can't give a logical explanation.

(Probably because I hid the comments as they all say the same thing. I wasn't the only one experiencing this weird glitch either.)

Well magic could take in many many different forms. I mean dragons are already magical creatures, so... yeah. Haha.
