Description
Just threw it together this morning. Had no clue it'd turn out looking actually pretty cool. I hope you like it! Especially your Godzilla/Gojira fans out there :3 I think I should do more monster art, not just Godzilla, but honestly it seems that my monsters have been coming out pretty creatively. I have some designs I did recently that I will share with you another time, for now I'm keeping them to myself until I finish my plans for them. I will admit that this one looks like he's got a bit of either Crocodile or Gator in him, but still looks like the original Godzilla. Just in a revised and re-imagined way. I may or may not do a full body version. *Shrugs* We'll see.Related content

Nice start here! I love the expression you gave him on
The bottom head.

Oooh, I love it. He looks so nasty!
Godzilla can be tricky because of his proportions. He's meant to be big, kind of slow moving and really, really tough. The Heisei era is my favorite because that Goji just looks like you can't dent him. [link]

I never got to see any of the original films. Blasphemy, I know, because I grew up with the Matthew Broderick Godzilla movie. While I agree that he's supposed to be big and tough, like how the Kaiju are being represented in Pacific Rim, having him be faster would be an asset to Godzilla. That way he's able to move swiftly when he attacks. We'll see what he's like in the 2014 movie, so far it looks good, they have a strong cast going atm.

Hehe, just remember one thing if you go for a redesign: Keep the basic concept there. The reason the 98 movie gets so much hate from kaiju fans is because they took a creature everybody knew and turned it into something unrecognizable.
The reason Transforms gets away with redesigns is because it keeps the basic elements there. Optimus Prime is always red and blue and has the ear finials. Starscream is always a jet and an asshole. Megatron always has a big gun(even if he's a tank like Armada). Jazz will always be hip and into what's cool.
To kaiju fans, Godzilla has always been a big, mean radioactive lizard who spits radioactive fire. They took that away in the 98 film and instead made stuff already on fire ignite his breath. I could live with a Godzilla who can run and jump(hell, my Shezilla character can run and jump; she's built like the Final Wars version of Godzilla, like this [link] ), but taking away the beam is a big no no. Another thing they did was let tanks and missiles hurt him. The Godzilla I know takes a missile to the face, sniffs and levels ALL the tanks in one go! Like this [link]
The trick with Godzilla is to keep certain basic elements in the design even if you redesign. Here's videos showing the evolution of his look over the years. He's had a lot of different looks over the years, yet you see it and know that's Godzilla right away.

Basically you can do almost anything you want, but make sure his chest has those three muscle bulges and make sure his dorsal spines have that vague maple leaf shape and you're good to go.
I'm not knocking your work. I'm just trying to help you so people who see your work won't give you shit about changing Godzilla "too much." He IS tricky to redesign, but it can be done. The Millennium era movies showed us how.
Sorry about referencing so many vids. I dunno if you do gesture drawing or not, but seeing the two where Godzilla is in motion might help you design him the way you can imagine him moving.

I did like the design for the 98 movie. Had it been written better and gave him his powers from the original eras? It might have been accepted a lot more. You can have something large and intimidating whilst making it fast, I mean, look at Megatron in the films or the robots and Kaiju from Pacific Rim. Large, some are bulky, but most definitely fast unless hindered for some reason.
Thanks for the help though, Cyndi ^^

You're welcome, and I agree. I like the movie as a monster movie, I just can't bring myself to call that iguana Godzilla XD I call him Zilla or GINO(Godzilla In Name Only).

So get this! I just watched the Godzilla cartoon that was based after the 98 movie. Zilla in that? Is actually AWESOME. He has the nuclear powers, AND incredibly smart. That and he can take a heck of a lot of firepower. It's sad when the writers for the cartoon do a better adaptation of the character than the movie does.

I saw a little of that before it changed times and I lost track of it, booo. He had a big green beam and he was extremely smart, and he was like a puppy to Nic XD (I think it was spelled without the K at the end.)

I loved the design for it, and was even happier to know that Stan Winston worked on it. Though his original design would have been something different, they went with Zilla as you call him/her xD
