The curtain closes
Briefly

Third Act
The audience jumps
The tech-types laugh
And the show goes on

Final scene
Curtain closes
Awed applause
Impressed cheers

Backstage
Shouts and screams
For a successful show
Laughter and smiles everywhere

Curtain call
And the actors reappear
All smiling
Taking their bows

A lone figure
Stumbles down the
Darkened aisle
And steps onto the stage

She smiles
Offering a bouquet
Pungent and beautiful
And a quick kiss

She disappears
Back down the
Shadowed aisle
And final bows are taken

The curtain whispers closed
Dampening the last of the applause
Smiling actors embrace
“See you tomorrow night”

I look down at the
Pungent bouquet
Carefully clutched
And I inhale

I smile my good-byes
And slip out the stage door
Clutching my opening night Roses
And stumble into your waiting embrace
