Well~ This is Zantray. <3
Zantray is a savanna Hylas , although the region she lives in is subjected to more rains than the stereotypical savanna, creating a marshy, swampy climate. She lives on her own, though she is still relatively young. She also tends to keep mostly to herself... at least, she does concerning the living.
Zantray possesses something Hylas call "mind-sight", which is nearly identical to the rare human ability to sense auras. All this enables her with is a way of literally seeing what a Hylas is like before actually getting to know them, by reading the color patterns their bodies naturally emit, which would otherwise be undetectable. In truth, it's nothing spectacular of an ability. Since she was born with this, she can read a Hylas' "aural fingerprint" to such detail, that it seems as if she is predicting the future. Because of this, she is obligated by her Gesch-clan to practice a Hylas form of mysticism that is much like a cross between Gypsy fortune-telling and Haitian Voodoo - for the better of the clan, of course.
The practice of this mysticism entitles a belief in angel communication on the mind-sightist's part (and whether or not any actual communication is going on is as debatable as any religion). Nevertheless, mind-sightists spend a great deal of time initiating trances, holding rituals, and practicing a large collection of ways to receive messages from the dead. Yesss, fun for the whole family.
As for her personality, Zantray is as proud as any Hylas - however, due to her mind-sight, she grew to care much more for a Hylas' soul's appearance rather than their physical one. She meditates often because of this, always trying to "purify" her aura... Which she very often claims is "tainted" because of the array of bloodletting rituals she is required to hold. (even though the species is mostly carnivorous, some of the things she does are damn brutal.) Still, it seems to be a losing battle on her part, thus her introverted nature and slightly demented personality. Since she can constantly look into another Hylas' soul, so to speak, she also finds it very difficult to like most other Hylas. She's incredibly protective of those she does know and trust, assuming a "guard dog" role over them (although she has been known to bite the hand that feeds her, at times.) ~

(Notes to Adele: As this is your species, you get to tell me whether or not she's "canon". XD Hopefully muddy green isn't too bright of a base color. It would have looked a bit more drab, but I colored this with the only available tria marker colors that were close (which I need to buy. ;; ) If all this mysticism junk is too much, too, I can scrap that and just make her a crazy swamp monster. Huzzah! D: )
