Description
This is a quick little drawing of Brad Pitt. My last 4-5 pieces were drawn using measurements from rulers and grids, so I was beginning to feel dependent on them. I've always thought that getting the proportions right is one of the major keys in drawing, and so it seemed that my use of rulers and grids were sort of cheating. That's one of the main reasons why I decided to draw this, just to make sure that I could still draw it freehand. I don't think I did too bad of a job, there may be something off with the head and the texture looks weird, but I think I got the basics to look right and thats what I'm most concerned about...Related content

I love this drawing- besides the fact that he's so incerdibly hot, not that you care about that.
Anyway, I am digging the shirt big time. Incredible likeness which I'm also loving. Looks really great!

his facial expression kinda reminds me of luke skywalker in return of the jedi, might be the lips, but i dont know for sure
still, very very good!! the shaddowy side of his face is fascinating. i'd guess that was the hardest part -- at least it would be for me. the foldings and shadings of them are also terriffic!

Nothing wrong with using grids and rulers. It's still your talent being used.

This looks like a cross between brad and the lawrence boy from the disney channel, but that may just be the expression on his face. i think you did an awesome job, and i dont think using grids and rulers is cheating at all, those are tools of the trade!

That's friggin' amazing. You captured his face in a very good way, and I love the folds and textures on the clothes. It makes the picture seem more.. Real.

looks good. i think you have the eyes down...but something isn't quite right...maybe it's the lips? or the jaw line. it's almost exact...abandoning the grid is hard, i know. nice work, though.

Fantastic job on the hair and shirt. I really like the detail in each.
Again about the fingers... looks like he's wearing bandages, if you see what I mean. (It is the same hand... so maybe his fingers are just plain old weird, haha)
Dig the dark side of his face; the parts that spring off are perfect.
I'm not sure about his shoulders. I think Pitt is more angular. His left shoulder seems right, but his right is too soft. He has big deltoids, and that tends to make shoulders really sharp rather than curved.
Nice work bro!

I agree with the comment above...great work....Ive done alot of these myself so I know how hard it is to make accurate portraits. Ive only got one suggestion......sometimes one can skip the outlining...only draw the light and shadow....use an eraser to create sharp edges....makes them more vivid.
Too hard outlining stiffens the character and can make them look weird.
Keep it up ! 80)

I never use grids or anything. I find they make me feel restricted. I used to draw from photographs for study purposes.... I don't do it all that much anymore because it tends to make me feel like I have to draw something really specific. I don't like any restrictions when I draw.
I feel better when I just pick up my pencil and draw something freehand from my head. It gives me a sense of freedom and creation.
B'ah! Using grids or rulers etc., isn't "cheating" -- it's just a means of studying and observing something very specifically. My teachers used to make us do that in High school. And when it comes to Technical drawing? Yikes!! Rulers and grids become your religion! lol
You did really well with this one without the grids. The proportions are done perfectly. However, the white background makes Brad look too
dark -- He needs more contrast to him.
Great job, nonetheless
Keep up the good werk

What I meant, was to go FOR the light, to make it light, not to make the shadows darker. They are dark enough...

This is very very good. The folds in the skirt, the face.. Thought that HIS right hand looks just a little too big,but that's probably just me. The shadowing is really good, but it wouldnt hurt to have just a little bit more contrast in the whole drawing. And then I would go for the shadows to make them darkere, rather make the light, lighter. Just a tiny little bit.
But yes, you were most concerned about the propostions? You've got those all right! The only thing would be the neck. It looks like he's streaching his head forward. I don't know.
Anyway, very good drawing!! Keep it up!!

you've got the basics and more.
I still think his upper body is a bit too short, and his eye looks weird. The shirt is too high on his neck. . .he seems broader in the shoulders than he really is. .
excellent work with the folds, wrinkles, and hair .

yeah i agree with you .. the head (especially the top part) is a tiny bit off ... like its too fat or something and i don't know if his neck is that thick ... but those are very minor things i think ... the drawing looks excellent ... i really like the folds in the shirt .. they looks fantastic ...
great work once again !!!
