Matachines de Sonora... de la tribu Yaqui, también conocidos como Fariseos, fueron buena onda conmigo, aunque querían dinero... después se pusieron a bailar, jaja, creo que tambien deseaban mi cámara, pero bueno, no les entendí, tienen prohibído hablar ¿Acaso no son geniales?---
Matachines of Sonora... of the Yaqui tribe, also known as fariseos, they were pretty nice to me, though they wanted money and then started dancing to me
I think they tried to get my cam... but oh well, it's forbidden for them to talk, aren't they cool?

what part of mexico is this in?
i havent seen the fariseos/chapayekas like this unless theyre from baja california. here in arizona theyre not allowed to wear short sleeved shirts.

They're here in Sonora, just a bit south from Arizona. But they just use that clothes in La Cuaresma (Lent / Easter).

I'm not exactly too sure why they can't wear short sleeved camisolas, but it's pretty explanatory that it does help the fariseos to keep cool from the Tucson sun (it can get VERY hot out here, very easy to be sunburned), and its a good way for them to stay warm during the cold nights (many tucsonans aren't used to the cold weather, especially me, im a big baby when it gets to 70 degrees, lol). other than that, i know that its rather crucial to keep the chapayeka's identity unveiled. i also noticed that these chapayekas in this picture arent wearing the big blankets that are usually wrapped around their bodies.
its soooo weird! i recently found another tribe thats located more south of mexico that also does the deer dance and has their own form of cuaresma and pahkos.

Fariseo mulo, fariseo mulo...
los matachines, llevan una corona de flores, y se tapan la cara con un pañuelo...
estos son fariseos, ellos tienen una manda (promesa a Dios) de no quitarse la mascara durante toda la cuaresma y pedir dinero a cambio del bailecito, tienen prohibido hablar, y si los encbrnas te corretean y te chicotean.
XD...me recuerdan mis dias de infancia....

Gracias, si sabía lo de la manda pero no estaba consciente de la diferencia entre matachines y fariseos, pensé que eran sinónimos meramente, porque toda la gente de aquí se refiere a ellos con ambos términos.

y de hecho los yaquis tienen su propio nombre "chapayecas"
porque lo de fariseo viene de la biblia...
asi son de complicadas las tradiciones

Jaja, yo les pagué 5 pesos para que me bailaran, y me querían cobrar más cuando les tomé la foto, jaja, como no tenía más dinero querían mi cámara

Jaja, de hecho es muy común que a la gente les de miedo, mi hermana y mi mamá no los aguantan, jaja, les sacan la vuelta cuando los ven por las calles... y es que el sonido que hacen con la flauta, los tambores y los cascabeles si es demasiado mítico.
