Description
Irritated rat is irritated. She feels quite motherly and protective of a lot of Pokette residents, so yeah, here we go.I wanted the Excadrill to look more defiant, but everyone has a split second of uncertainty when well, fire right in the face!
worked hard on this, it was super fun!

A Normal type against a steel/ground type? She knows she's at a disadvantage, so why would she try?

Someone doesn't study move sets a lot |D
I'd agree with you if she were against a fighting type, but neither steel nor ground have an offensive type advantage over Normal.
While She knows Flame Wheel, which is super effective against steel types. She also has high attack and outlevels it to boot, plus being anthro probably outsmarts/outspeeds it, too. so yeah, it would hit pretty damn hard. this stacked up with the entire rest of Pokette ganging up on this trouble maker is why she's not attacking him directly.
Pokemon have a lot of moveset possibilities, which can turn the odds in their favor or not make use of their typing, so you can't take it so Black and White, so to speak.

She knows fire type moves? They're not going to do much because she's not a fire type.

STAB only contributes so much in a pokemon battle. x2 weakness damage does more than x1.5 STAB damage. Excadrill's defense power also sucks compared to raticate's potential attack power. If you don't learn the details of the pokemon you're using, that's fine, but your pokemon will get predictably beat by predictable foes, and you'll just be another typical pokemon player. Lots of people will catch you by surprise with simple tactics.
I just did the proper calculations. [link]
and her attack would do more damage than excadrill has HP. And that's /without/ Swords Dance, which can be used up to six times.

I know 2 things:
1. Always use the type advantage.
2. make sue the Pokemon is stronger than your opponents.
You're not a good trainer if you don't know those things.

well it's just part of a group thing; imagine a bunch of anthro pokemon relaxing peacefully; and the excadrill and some other pokemon literally attacked. the residents of pkmn-crossing all naturally fought back, but no one's seriously hurting it [especially not in this picture cough cough shot]
it's gone now though. you gotta compare it to say, a wolf or bear attacking a village full of children; except instead of being shot, it's just scared off. TL;DR Excadrill started it!

for a fighting type i believe in the words of my pappy. "i don't care who started it...you don't solve it with violence, for violence is never the answer...it is the question and in this situation with out knowing why one attacks the answer will always be no." but i hear ya
