Description
:EDIT: Dude! I forgot that I was 16 when I did this! So weird. Yeah, touched it up with water color pencils a FEW YEARS back - haha - and finally got around to taking a photo of it earlier today...I wanted to crop the top of the circle off (the one created by the angels and demonds). I think it would have looked better and given the apperance that he was breaking their circle with his light. But, I figured that I should leave the piece in it's original form. It's been years anyway.
Hope you all like the update!
:END:
This is a Narrative art assignment I did last year and had to be done with acrylic paint. Nearly a year later, I decided to take it out and fix up the things that I could with my colored pencils (they are godly tools). If I had the wanting to do this again, I’d be sure to properly place the characters from the beginning (Ex: the angel’s big fat glowing left wing is interfering with the demon hands), and make sure that the light beams surrounding the centered angel and demon DID NOT look like a waterfall…
I focused more on getting the right motion out of my brush strokes than I did on the shape, which I usually don’t do. I don’t do these kinds of things very often, I’m more of a cartoonist, so this was quite a nice and interesting change and challenge for me. I learned that Acrylic painting is fun, you just have to be quick and not let the little details and imperfections get too you too much until you’ve neared completion.
The story happening within this picture is like "Romeo and Juliet’s". A forbidden love; can't mix stripes with spots, Angels with Demons, blah blah blah. The aim was for it to be like a scene from a nightmare; with all the hands slowly pushing their way through the swirling masses of the goopy, rubbery like substance that they’re all stuck in the middle of. Each side is reaching out to the lovers, to separate them and take each back to their own kind; a protest against them being together you know. But, DUH, they don't want to settle for that, and are fighting back! Well, the Angel man is at least, the Demon girl is just being a frail female "Hold me, and never let go." - funny, her being a demon and all.
My point here should be obvious, but if not; it shouldn't matter what color or race you are, a person (or any creature) should be jugged by the content of their heart and character. And that's how we should all determine the value of others and their positions in our short life times.
Mah! The deed is done and fulfilled to my best.
ONWARD HO!

awe, thanks! What an honor! I'm glad that you enjoyed it so much. Ya know, I fixed up that painting not too long after I posted it.
I should take a picture of it and re-post it. I like it better now, the colors are brighter and there's more reflective light. it just feels better.
thanks again. <3

Actually the angel's wing pushing against the demon hands seems to be a part of the story you describe. It's hardly an imperfection, but I understand how difficult it is to fully appreciate the completeness of one's own work. We are always focused on being critical of perceived imperfections.

I love acrylics, and this is absolutely beautiful! very moving, good brushstrokes, and I like how the angel's wings sort of frame the two because it draws the eye right to them, then around the outside to see the wings and what they protect against.
personally I love acrylics and the only thing that equals them to me is pencil and paper, but this is very very good, nice job!

Very beautiful! I love the majesty of the wings, and the way that the light reflects off of them! The hands coming out of the walls lends a really creepy feeling to the pic, too. You can definitely tell that there's a very complicated back-story behind this picture! Great job!

Wow.....Just WOW. More then a month?! Well it certainly seems like you put a lot of love into it, even if it didn't turn out the way you would have liked. I'll admit the first time I looked at it I thought that was a waterfall. After full viewing it I caught the little details I missed the first time like the dark and light hands on the edges.
I'll tell you this is just beautiful, seeing the light brush strokes over and in between the angels wings...wow man you put your heart in to this one and it shows!
Guess this one hit me just right ~listening to Meatloaf's "Anything for love"~
"But I’ll never stop dreaming of you every night of my life, no way
And I would do anything for love, oh I would do anything for love
I would do anything for love"

That is utterly amazing!! I dunno what else to say, it's just so great! I have a love hate relationship with acrylics and watercolours too, though I'm nowhere near as good at painting as you!

Oh, wow. Thank you. Yeah, paints can get extremly annoying, it's amazing.
But it's odd how much esier it can be when you have good brushes. I need some good expensive broushes. I used the crappiest of crap brushes for this painting.

Lol I know what you mean but it's really bizarre the way, when I'm using watercolours, if I'm using my completely crappy cheap brush they come out really well but if I use my more decent brushes they look awful!! Weird lol.

Wow, i feel so special that i actually go to see the origional of this! personally, i love this painting, almost purely for its uniqueness and origionality, like somthing that came from ur mind that im sure no one else cud imagine and put onto canvas ^_^ seriously i am staring at the painting thinking of some way to say how "uberly" awesome it is but i cant!
the way the colors come together, the lighting, and the waterfall are just amazing!
most of all i like how u used the 2 color scheme... it really sends out the message well! I "lurv" it!
i envy ur artistic abilities!

Ha! Wild Waves to much for ya, eh?!
No worries, tis fine, if I wasn't the one that created it and spent forever tryign to make it look like light, then I'd think it were I waterfall too. X3 It does look like one, and you're not the onlky one that's said that, sadly.

When I first started useing Acrilics, I didn't understand why people didn't like em, you can panit over stuff so easily. But after doing this, I've gone to not likeing these too much and likeing watercolors. It was exactly the opposite a year ago.

*tears advanced crit label off* I like it just the way it is. I've never painted with acrylics before, so I don't really know what they're like (I've only painted with tempuras on construction paper) I like the texture it has though. It makes the wings look fluffy.

COOKEcakes In reply to Jackalopette [2005-07-26 01:19:07 +0000 UTC]
Why does everyone what to shoot me for putting advanced crit!
Thank you very much. They're sort-a like tempera, only permanint (um, tempera aren't water resistant right? There's something about em that makes me way different from acrilics, but I can't quite remember what. ) and I think tehy dry faster. There's even a special clear paint you can mix in with your other paint, to slow downt he drying time. X3
But Acrilis are fun, and do turn out nice, if you have the right kind of brushes that is. But i THINK i PREFER WATERCOLOR RIGHT NOW OVER ACRILIC, WHICH IS ODD CAUSE NOT VERY LONG AGO IT WAS THE OPPOSIT.
Stupid caps.

All I know about Tempuras is that they got all over my arm when I stoped painting... Watercolor is fun. I've experimented with it. I havn't done any reall big projects with them.

Yeah, I don't like that you can't eras or go over things really, and that the colors are so light and transparent. O_O (unless you use the tube watercolors X3) They're good for light colored things, and lighting affects and stuff, but I prefer bright vibrant coloris in my art. And with acrilics, you can paint over things and not have anything show from behind, no problem. As long as you wait for the paint to dry, which doesn't take very long, believe me.
