Okay so I guess this is a continuation of that crazy blanket fort party. Piper got Annabeth addicted to video games and now there’s an intense video game rivalry between them. Except Piper’s a lot better than Annabeth and Annabeth isn’t taking it too well.Related content

Annabeth could just hack her DS when she's not looking and release all her pokemon, it's not that big a deal and you know she'd be saving that for a backup strategy in case of an emergency.

But it wouldn't be worth the effort. This is the same person who complain to the Sphinx about how none of her "riddles" are challenging even though they would have been easy for her.

That was the point, she stated those were just random facts, it wasn't just that they were an insult to her intelligence as a daughter of Athena, it was that the riddle was supposed to be a RIDDLE, something to make a person think, that was the entire basis of the myth.

So??? Every mythological being has adapted to modern times. Procrustes owns a furniture store, Medusa owns are garden gnome shop, heck the Hydra of all things is connected a chain of donut shops(Monster Donuts?). So a Sphinx deciding to use a quiz machine makes perfect sense.

Correction, Crusty owned a waterbed/mattress store, not a furniture shop... and it's not so much the quiz format that bugged me, it's just that the questions weren't riddles, it would have made more sense to have a series of riddles rather than a series of unrelated questions, i mean, how does one go from "what's the capital of Bulgaria?" to "how much force is required to move this object?" like that? even for a Sphinx, the inconsistancy made no sense... also, if she knew Annabeth would know the answer to her usual riddle, plus the fact that Annabeth told her she was a daughter of Athena, one would assume the Sphinx would skip the questions and either ask a better riddle or just attack her straight-up...

Because questions require knowledge to answer. Riddles can easily be answered by people with out of the box thinking like Annabeth. But for questions, no amount of logical deduction or intelligence can bring forth the answer if you simply don't know it. If Annabeth didn't know "what's the capital of Bulgaria" than no matter how smart she is she simply wouldn't be able get answer. As opposed to Orpheus, a farmer who probably didn't get the best education in Ancient Greece, yet able to figure out her riddle despite an entire city of educated people failing to do so. She also had dozens of questions, just incase he/she answers the first one. Also the Sphinx DID attack her straight up when Annabeth revealed she was the daughter of Athena(and began to insult her). Honestly its a plot hole for why monsters like Crustes and Sphinx to even let their victim a chance to escape instead of just killing them outright, but it's just in there nature.

Um, not to be rude or anything, but you mixed up the myths... Orpheus was the musician, the farmer who challenged the Sphinx was Oedipus...
And when did Annabeth insult her? all she said was that answering random questions like that was an insult to her intelligence, she wasn't calling the Sphinx stupid, just the questions she was asking...
Finally, in all honesty, Annabeth does reveal in the book that her fatal flaw is Hubris, also known as Deadly Pride, of course she's going to be annoyed at something like that, because she knows she's smarter than that and a capable fighter in her own right.

ah..got the name wrong. Personally I never see how Hubris is Annabeth's fatal flaw. I thought her flaw is more emotional dependance really. Since she keeps on hanging on to Luke throughout the entire Percy Jackson books, and never displayed Deadly Pride except for that one time.

It's explained, see, she is prideful in that she always wants to have the answer and always wants to be the one to hold people together, she even admits in the House of Hades that she has a hard time letting people take risks for her, reread the part where they fall into the river Cocytus, most of her regrets are from people trying to protect her, she doesn't like being seen as weak.

Sounds more like an inferiority Superiority Complex than the Hubris described by the Greeks. I mean wanting to be the one who "hold people together" is a far cry from Bellerophon who believed himself to be equal to the gods(and got a nice mountain-high fall for his troubles).

now it sounds to me like you're cherry-picking, it wasn't just the idea of 'holding people together' that she was so fixated on, she also had to keep reminding herself that she couldn't always have the answer or hold the sword, as much as she wanted to do all the stuff she wanted to do, her quest was supposed to teach her how to work alongside people, the same as high-and-mighty Bellerophon... also, having a superiority complex is exactly that, believing yourself SUPERIOR to others...

Old man Rick only mentioned that laptops and cellphones attracted monsters, and in one book, Percy used his apartment wall-phone and no monsters barged into his apartment.

True, but even if that phone had a wireless handset, the base would be connected to the network with a chord. The wireless signal would only go as far as the headset and not leave the house at all. Annabeth could only be competing with Piper in real time if they were connected to the internet through a wi-fi connection, just like cellphones and laptops use. Besides, near as I can tell, monsters can detect a half-blood's energy through the wireless signal the tech uses, like a cellphone's wireless signal or a laptop or DS Lite connected to wi-fi.
