Edit - I added a glow around the horse (the light source), hand painted some splashes, and changed the angle of the horse.
GeneralI did the same sort of idea of an older piece, but a lot more effectively.
ProcessI did all the normal things, plus tried to make the horse look like a unicorn. This is not just the tail, but making it white and flawless. I also did a major amount of lighting.

This is amazing, i'm afraid i won't be able to write a full critique. Which just proves how awesome this is!
First off, the mane and tail are simply stunning. The mane could be a bit thicker, but thats about it. Wonderful job there!
I love the soft glow around the horse, although I agree that the light source isn't quite clear enough. I'd probably lighten up the waterfall a bit too, bright colors made dark dont fancy with me. But that's just me. :3
I have to admit, that rock/boulder thingy in the front is quite distracting to the eye..especially since it seems to have a black glow around it. There is also a weird white/gray thing at the top of the waterfall, looks like a brush. I'd remove that too.
I personally love the splashes, they look great! The colors blend so nicely in this image.
Don't let me bring you down - this is absolutely amazing! I am only expressing my opinions in an attempt to help you improve even more. Keep up the awesome work!

Thank you for the help! I might actually go back and improve this now! I can certainly fix the light spot at the top of the waterfall and the glowing black rock. I probably won't end up assigning a new light source, but I could try and clarify that the glow is coming from the unicorn. Again, thank you so much!

The horn is magnificant and I like the splashes, only thing I dont like is the fact the light source isnt clear x.x Im not quite sure what is creating the light on the image o_o but that's just me :3 well done, its pretty overall.
