"Are you sure about this?" Remi drawled hesitantly, adjusting his weight in Mazzi's saddle, "Shouldn't we be doing this with cows?"

"No," was Noel's reply as she swung up onto Saint with a grin. "She's got cow sense, but I want to get the basics on her before we turn her out with the cattle." a cue from her reins sent her paint stallion away at a trot, "Just follow me." she instructed over her shoulder. Remi shrugged and put his heels gently to Mazzi's flanks, and the buckskin mare jogged easily a few steps behind Saint and Noel.

Noel turned sharply left, and then right. Remi instructed Mazzi through the first few unexpected turns, and the clever mare was soon mirroring Saint's movements without guidance. The session lasted another twenty minutes, with Noel making a wide array of rollbacks and sharp turns.

"See," she panted, bringing Saint to a halt and finally letting Remi and Mazzi catch up. "She's learning to track movement, and react in kind." she smiled brightly, and leaned over to brush her fingers through the alert mare's mane. "You just passed Cutting 101 with an A+, girl."

*painted-cowgirl generously allowed me to lease her fabulous mare, PD Like a Gold Mine to train and compete in an upcoming cutting class. I'm overjoyed and very excited for the opportunity! I fell head over heels for this mare when I first saw her.
