Description
A piece done for Digital as Illustration class, 2nd Semester at MICA.Assignment was to make a picture based off of the title phrase of a television series; I chose "How It's Made" from Discovery/the Science Channel. I remember having most difficulty in lighting with this one, but hopefully I've learned from these mistakes and will do better next time a piece calls for large robots and single-bulb-lit warehouses

That robot IS badass. With regard to the lighting, it is more general and ambient than seems likely from a single lightbulb -- imagine how dramatic the painting would be with harsh shadows, a narrow cone of yellow light illuminating their plans, and the front edges of the robot peering out ominously. Gosh now I'M feeling inspired!

Thanks! I knew the lighting seemed off somehow before, but now that you mention it I can definitely see what's wrong. Your suggestion is quite inspiring; I will have to take your idea for dramatic, conular lighting to heart the next time I'm making a similar piece!

I'm glad I could help at all! The piece is still wonderfully painted, and I'm kind of glad there are no more shadows than there are so that I can make out all the details.
