Description

I headcanon that the selfish lion (Choyo) is the strange Lion (Kusumu)'s father and Zira's grandfather. for this reason, I opted to draw Choyo with features of his granddaughter (like the stripe, the sharp eye-rims and the side bangs) that strange also inherited. It's a small world after all

I headcanon that Choyo was the first to theorize the "lions over all" mentality that Strange also inherited and tried to pass down onto Zira. Unlike Choyo and Strange, who see ruling Pride Rock as their destiny, Zira slowly grows out of it only to replace it with her "savior complex" with Scar.

Choyo sometimes dreamed to take the throne for himself, but he realized soon that he'd have no chance, especially since Mohatu announced he'd have an heir/heirress soon. So, he got together with a lioness and had strange, who he always trained to be King. Moreover, to further cement his position in the pride, he blackmailed Nibur, Mohatu's wife, into betrothing Strange to her daughter Uru, in exchange for the usage of Choyo's waterhole by the whole pride. Everything was going well until Mohatu accepted to take care of Ahadi, an orphaned cub, and make him into Uru's "personal bodyguard". During their teenage years, realizing that Uru fell in love with Ahadi, Strange and Selfish plotted to kill Ahadi in order to keep Strange on the throne.

This went horribly wrong, because their attack was supposed to happen next to the gorge; what happened is that Selfish was thrown in by Ahadi, and Strange was wounded in the eye by him, gaining a scar on his right eye. Realizing he couldn't win, he fled to pride rock and started accusing of Ahadi plotting to kill his father and him to take the throne; unfortunately, Uru sneaked out of her den and witnessed everything, denouncing Strange's lies. He was casted into exile, where he married a lioness and had Zira as his daughter.
