Description
Not How It Ended (2015)I know its an obscure reference, but this is actually fanart based on a PC Hidden Object Game called "Neptune's Secret". The game came out in 2007 or 2008. and was meant to be the first part of a series. No other sequels were released, however, so the story doesn't really have a proper ending. It isn't a "mermaid game" per se, but they make their appearances. Between rounds, still images and spoken narration reveal the story, and I've tried to match the style here.
The Story (such as it is):
An archeologist named Hannah has come into possession of a powerful Amulet that the sea god, Neptune, is trying to acquire in order to RULE THE WORLD(!!!!!) - *ahem* Anyway, Hannah has to learn the secret of the Amulet's power, while keeping it away from Neptune.
*SPOILERS AHEAD!*
The scene this image comes from happens very near the end of the game. Throughout the game, Hannah gathers clues while constantly being pestered by a rival collector named Wyatt. Of course, Neptune eventually shows up, steals the Amulet, captures Wyatt, and turns Hannah into a mermaid. Inexplicably, Neptune locks Wyatt in an underwater chamber (without his diving gear(!!) ), and Hannah (whose diving breathing apparatus can still be heard even though she's a mermaid now), searches around for a key to free him. She finds the key, they race for the surface, and a gag-inducing scene of love between Wyatt and Hannah ensues whereby the curse on Hannah is broken. (Cue the scene above - but with Wyatt on the left.) Short wrap-up scene. Roll credits.
My feeling was, if Wyatt is going to be stranded in a locked underwater chamber without diving gear for 20+ minutes, there'd better be a damn good reason why he's able to survive it.
No explanation was offered, hence the image above... problem solved!
And don't even get me started on what a mess of a story "Deep Blue Sea 2" was... *grumble, grumble*

(Of course, I might be a just tad biased about that...)

Well, Neptune was one of the Greek Big Three and not one to let an opportunity slip away...

Indeed. In the game, though, he's more of a bully than anything else. Its been eight years since the game's release, so I guess now that he's got the Amulet he's just biding his time.

Some girls like the bad boys. And I think bully is on the job description for most Greek Gods.
Besides her turned the heroine into a mermaid so he can't be all bad. OK maybe 99.8% bad.

Apparently not. It looks like other sites, including Big Fish Games, still sell it though.

Good art, nice color and lining. Evolution is still possible, then! Also so good to see you drawing again!

I can't post most of what I've been doing lately. Well, not if I want to keep my account, anyway.
