Description

Wooop woop another species for the "Temperate Rainforest of Terra Septentrionis" wallace ii challenge! :3

This time around is this boyo, a very bug/squid like planimal from a group my friend Oceansky made named "Octichins"

Octichins as a whole are descended from Stellimusae, a group of plant like marine pollies, but they became extremely animal like, some even became secundarily terrestrial, like my daemian octichin boyo owo

This boi is semiaquatic, while it can breathe air, it needs to keep its body moist and its young need to be underwater, as such it mostly spends its times in mangroves and other riverine environments where it can keep itself moist while also nearby trees since its also very arboreal

its hunting strategy basically depends on making a thick sap like mucus from two glands inside its mouth, which then drops from its mouth and creates a type of sweet smelling mucusy "orb", then small insect like dispeculates would get attracted by the scent and get trapped in the mucus which then the octichin will slurp back inside itself, eating both the mucus and the prey item : p

while mostly insectivorous, the daemian octichin also likes to eat several fruit species, specifically some of the Chirret species, which it has developed a resistance to its compounds, they actually started to incorporate the bright blue pigment of the chirret's fruits into its armor and skin, leading to those distinctive bluish patches :3

due to the orb/mucus strategy they are commonly refered to as "orb-weaving octichins", and their distinctive red horns have given them the common names of "diabolic octichin" and "daemian octichins"

despite the agreassive look of these guys, they are actually quite timid, and wont actually attack any person that comes near them :3
