I did this about three years ago. I had the idea of a fairy sitting on a bubble while looking at a beta fighting fish in a petshop...then it occured to me...why a bubble? Why not a globule of water? With a fish inside.... it only occured to me later ...how was the fairy sitting on a globe of water? (shrug, what do I care? She's a mystical being of whimsy. )Related content

She can sit on the water, because unlike we fat humans, she weighs about as much as a wisp of air.
That and water surface tension.

Don't forget the fairy magic and fish slime. Just cause you weight as much as a thimble full of air doesn't mean your little fairy butt won't get wet. Increasing liquid viscosity with a little help of fish slime to lower shear tension does wonder....people often neglect the importance of fish slime.

i didnt realize what was in the water globule until i read your insert, but its still very good work, and very beautiful. very unique idea also... i have not yet seen anything like this. many props

the background seems to go unnoticed, it gives it an oriental feeling to it. and i almost didnt notice, but she has a reflection! i can't believe how real that beta fish looks, if mine was red i wouldn't be able to tell the two apart. very realistic and beautiful.

I'm not that creative when it comes to drawing for I can't draw that well and canm't draw all the things that I think of. But my mind is full of stuff like your art! Hi, I'd like to say that you've created piece with excellent composition and color, which give the overall picture a water clear effect. However, it also appear to me that the body of the fairy and the water bubble is quite realistic in approach, even a little like created by 3 D model, whereas its face, hair, and especially the wings, seem more 'flat' in comparison. The background nicely blends with the overall picture, but is it intend to be a wallpaper like 'flat'?
The is a beautiful piece nonetheless.

I built it along the lines of a digital matte painting. The hair and wings where flat planes composited into the structure of the 3d model I built for her body. I don't usually use geometry for hair but I have on occasion. My website has an In-Progress gallery which shows the major steps I took in making most of my pieces.
