In Resident Evil V Excella Gionne is the head of a division of the pharmaceutical company Tricell. Together with Albert Wesker she creates a virus, with which eventually she gets infected herself.

yes.. lol ... foreshortened poses seem more challenging i suppose. When i used to do modeling someone would have to end up with that side if it was a large class. Usually students tended NOT to want the foreshortened view.

good luck getting that through a machine translator ^ ^ i tried to keep it simple just in case.
what i was saying was that your translation was a bit wrong but was reasonably intelligible. my japanese is better than my french because i use japanese every day, but french rarely.

Thanks for clearing that up. Passing your blob of Japanese through the translator gave something reasonable sounding in English, but not so much so in French. Actually between English and French Google Translate doesn't seem bad at all, as long as the phrases are complete and not ambiguous (so much for puns...)

yeah, i've never seen a translator that can handle even simple japanese, and of course there's no way it can process the social complexity embedded in the language (indicating age, gender, and social position relative to addressee etc)...

i think google translate is a good thing in some ways, actually - it's very good for getting a sense of what a section of text is about in a language you don't speak, but doesn't work so well the other way when you have no way to check what's coming out at the other end! i use it along with a dictionary when i need to read modern chinese, though it pains me to admit it!

True, but part of it comes from the fact that we only give a few sentences at the time to translate, so there is never enough context available. And also, often ideas don't have their equivalent in the other language. Like "vous" and "tu" in French both mapping to "you" in English, so even context doesn't help.

oh, quite... something i always have to explain is that words and concepts are not universal, and that translation is all about finding the best match between a miss-matched mishmash of almost-similar concepts 
japanese is particularly bad for this: you couldn't translate "to give" without knowing the social relationship between giver and receiver, because there are several verbs to match the one in english, not to mention that the inflexion of whichever verb we chose would be determined by the social relationship of speaker to listener as well :S

Agreed, but... Japanese and Europeans have in common that they are humans. To put it differently: take a Japanese baby, bring it up in a British family and he/she will talk and think in English as if he is of Anglo-Celtic descent. And probably prefer fish and chips over sushi.
And vice-versa.
And because our minds are the same, human, I think that it might one day be possible that a computer can translate, say a novel (rather than just a sentence or two). Memorysize and CPU speed are going up so fast, that we might be able to "educate" and "bring up" a computer, so that it really can understand the novel it's translating. Context and social background included.
Now to understand a Tentacleman from Sirius IV, that would probably take a while longer...
