Eddie Brock’s backstory (for those who don’t know):
.
Eddie’s mom died giving birth to him. As a result, his father resented his own son. Trying to impress his dad, Eddie played sports but didn’t excel and took up journalism. In college, Eddie killed a kid while driving drunk. Eddie wanted to turn himself in but his father urged otherwise. Brock moved to NYC, working as a journalist. One of his gigs led to investigating a villain at large. Eddie was contacted by a man claiming to be the villain, & willing to confess. Eddie broke the story, revealing the identity of the villain. Only to find out that Spider-Man caught the real villain & the guy that confessed to Eddie was a compulsive liar. Brock was fired & his wife divorced him. Unable to find real work due to his tarnished reputation, he took jobs for tabloids & the strained relationship he had with his dad ended completely. Eddie blamed Spider-Man for ruining his life. He began lifting weights to find relief but still suffered from anger & depression. Contemplating ending it all, he accidentally bonded with a symbiote that told him Spider-Man’s identity. Eddie & the symbiote became Venom, & the rest is comic book history. It was later revealed that before Eddie bonded with the symbiote, he had cancer. The symbiote not only bonded with Eddie because of their shared hatred for Spider-Man, but it did it to save his life. The cancer caused a release of adrenaline which sustained the symbiote. They needed each other to survive.

Eddie Brock is a complex character who was dealt a bad hand in life. He did some bad things but also had his moments of trying to do right. Life isn’t black/white, it’s shades of grey, just like Eddie Brock. Sure, this pic looks scary, but the story is complex. I drew Eddie looking sick, tired, mad & worn, because he is. I’m sure many can relate to Eddie. If we take time to hear each others’ story, we might find that we have more in common than we thought. A simple gesture like lending a hand or giving a smile to someone during a tough time can be all they need to send them on the right path. The End. Hope you enjoy the art. ✌🏾
