Personality
- Ruben is a good-natured person for the most part, his morals are acceptable, and he's not to typically do things with the intention of harming others. He's shy, but capable of socializing, and doesn't really avoid it. He's just more of a listener, and doesn't mind the silence. When he does speak, he can be witty. Ruben is surprisingly fond of throwing out unexpected comebacks, and teasing remarks. Seeing the look of surprise on other's faces when he does so is a reward onto itself! Reactions are CUTE! Another advantage to his wallflower-esque lifestyle is the fact that all the time he's not spent talking, he's busy observing! In certain situations, Ruben will catch sight of things much quicker than others usually would. But, the one issue is the fact he doesn't entirely trust his eyes. It's hard to believe what you see no matter how real it may be!
Honestly, if witnessing intense paranormal, or traumatic situations, he may try to pretend they aren't there. It doesn't often work, and he ends up obsessing about them more than intended, but it's not like he'll admit that! If there's a possibility it's all in his head then its better to keep quiet! Right? Abit cowardly, but hey, that's what he is. He's very slow to jump into action when things get dangerous. Not to say he won't try to help at all, but Ruben's approach typically involves him standing very far away from the danger zone. It's better to have one person's neck on the line rather than two! Also... Danger is scary, ok? Can you blame him for not wanting to just blindly sacrifice himself? Honestly! Of course, there are times where action is the only answer. It makes his hands shake, but hey, maybe he'll be there for you then. Maybe.
That is a very tiny maybe, just sayin'. Ruben's weak as hell, he can't punch too well, like, at all. Noodle arms, n' more. He's so submissive that just the right amount of confrontation will cause him to shrink into himself... Very weak-willed, you could say. Hope your captor doesn't have a degree in intimidation cause otherwise you're screwed if you're lookin' for Ruben's help. He'll be too busy with his head down, mumbling, or just generally being anywhere, BUT there! Bye!
It's really pathetic, but is that so bad? People see something pathetic, so they want to protect it! While most survive off their intellect, or strength, Ruben has found that being as meek as he can works just as well. You should really be careful if you're the mother hen type, he'll definitely manipulate you! Woops.
While his small cowardly nature has been a strong focus of his character, he's also curious! Notoriously curious. He pokes his nose where it doesn't belong, and he asks way too many questions. A curse, but at the same time a blessing. He rather likes being in the know about things, and with his curousity there's little that gets past him! It's a trait that's often at odds with his cowardice. In his head, he's fearing repercussions, but it seems like another part of him just can't keep away from all the mysterious happenings around him! It's out there, but hey, he's an odd type of person so it's expected. How is he odd you might ask? Well. When is a sweaty-handed, sexual deviant who's unhealthy reliving his past trauma's not odd? Really.
Sexual deviant? What? Maybe that's abit much, but he is abit obsessed with sex. A sort of secret horndog. Not many know it, but once you start flirting you'll soon figure out how up for a go around in the janitor's closet he is. He wouldn't do anything outright crazy, but his response to a small bit of flirting is to just rev it up! Not verbally, but... A hand might touch your waist, and more if you let it. Also, he knows all the innuendos. Don't even think those will fly over his head! He may even see some where there aren't any... He's actually had an impressive amount of sexual encounters for a weak lookin' nerd. A good few have even turned into serious relationships. What a casanova.
Likes:
Photography, very much still an amateur. Ignoring his darker interest (taking photos of others tied up), he likes taking photos of wildlife. He has a series of action shots that depict cats hunting!

Detective stories, his love for the child detectives has dwindled with age, and he’s become interested in the more mature stories of the mystery genre! But make no mistake, Nancy Drew’s adventures will forever own his heart!
The great detective trope in Japan is alive, and thriving! Ruben loves old japanese detective shows such as Gegege no Kitaro! Honestly, theres probably stickers of the show's characters all over his suitcase!
Fish, they’re the only pets he ever keeps. He’s always been a little scared of the idea of someone stealing his pet if he got a dog or cat. Fish are safe, plus hard to steal! He has quite abit of knowledge of different types of fish, and how to care for them.
Table Top RPGS. Loves Call of Cthuhlu, and when playing DND is almost ALWAYS a Tiefling Warrior.
Running, especially when feeling down.
Dislikes:
Sleeping, is prone to nightmares. Has one on a near-weekly basis. Often skulked around his home rather than sleeping, way too afraid to continue that habit in Crowhaven. He doesn't particularly like the idea of walking around a creepy old building in the middle of the night!
Horror movies, atleast that's what he says. There's a weird love/hate. Still, he refuses to watch them when asked. No qualms with animated ones. Seems to have a thing for animation.
Has a very strong dislike of Halloween, it’s a very sore subject. He’s often pranked that time of year, and old memories resurface. Shuts himself in during Halloween.
Sharing a room. Really, really, not fond of sharing his personal space with others!
Rain! It’s no fun when it's raining!! Hell, it's even depressing. His mood plummets when it rains.
Arsene Lupin. Hates the series featuring the gentleman thief because he finds it's use of Sholmes insults Sherlock Holmes. The fact that Arsene is almost depicted as smarter than Holmes makes him :///

History:
Tdlr;; Ruben’s interest in child detectives, and his desire to be one leads him to eventually poke his nose in the wrong place at the wrong time. He happens upon a gruesome murder scene he believes was caused by a monster. It haunts him, and very few believe what he saw. Eventually his trauma, mixed with his intense curiosity slowly turns into an interest in photography, and more.

Scanning over the town near daily for the most secretive of mysteries, he'd often be found sleuthing in the oddest of places. Bars, clubs, etc. A very curious little tike, but never did he find anything horrible, or super interesting to make for his debut! No, infact, his highest caliber case was figuring out who catnapped Mr.Mittens from his teacher!
Murders just weren't a thing around there, and so it didn't seem like Ruben was going to catch his big break! Not until one day when the young one came towards his weekly haunt. The backwoods near his home. Ruben always did go there in hopes of finding a corpse, but when he got what he wanted, well, he really wasn't prepared for it. At just 11, he came across a sight that would haunt, and fascinate him forever. Just at his foot, it sat in the grass. A woman's hand. It was dainty, stark white, and tied around its finger was a ribbon. It was one of many gifts strewn around the ground, her legs, chest, dismembered, but held together by connecting ribbons.
It was a gruesome sight, and just steps from it was a heaving shadowy mass. Something akin to a man, but off-putting. Inhuman-like. Atleast in Ruben's eyes, he was. Though, the small child only caught a glimpse before he ran like hell. When the incident was reported to the police station, they did manage to find the corpse, but the criminal's identity was a blank as the only person who witnessed them, Ruben, could only swear up, and down it was a beast.
Despite how disturbing the murder was, the corpse was a complete Jane Doe, and not many people had a problem with making a rumour out of it. Nor did they have many qualms with poking fun at Ruben's claims that a monster was the culprit. Teens started talking around town about a creature skulking the woods, and Ruben got sent to therapy where he learned ways to cope with his experience, aswell as make sense of what he saw that day.
From his time in therapy, Ruben learned many ways to cope, and picked up many small hobbies. One he grew to love, and become apart of his everyday life was running. He didn't start out as the fastest, but overtime he got good enough to join the track team, and even became the captain his sophomore year! While it did help him clear his head when things got rough, it never really could erase the experience from Ruben's mind. In some cases, when children experience traumatic things, they can begin to obsess over it. Ruben was one of those children, and though he initially relived it through drawing, with age he grew to experience it through tieing himself, or others up in ribbons, and photographing it. He's always claimed the photographs were for a series based off feeling trapped, or whatever other excuses he could make up off the top of his head, but in truth, it was just abit more devious. It brought a sort of unexplainable gratification to him.
Eventually, he even started carrying the camera around because it helped ease his mind, since that terrible experience, Ruben has never been able to trust his eyes, nor has he been able to entirely accept the fact what he saw wasn't real. With a camera around, there's no doubt, and well, maybe if he got to see that creature again, he'd know the truth.
Reaching 22, well, he's still not seen the monster. Still keeps the camera. His life hasn't been bad though. Ruben graduated highschool, not at the top of his class, but he did well enough. Even won a trophy in track for beating a long kept school record! Threw it away, but he can still be proud! Still runs, all the time.
It's not so bad, but he'd like if something interesting would happen. He's started thinking about moving to the big city. Hell, he even had the plans in motion, but he halted them once he got a peculiar letter with his medical papers...
Upon being accepted to Crowhaven:
He stared at the paper in his hands. Lips drawn together tightly, there was something off. It was easy to catch with how Myer’s brows had shot towards the sky when reading the words.
‘We’d like to invite you...’
He flipped it over once, twice, even a third. There weren’t any dead giveaways that said this was a joke. Much too formal a paper to be a joke. Still, that didn’t do much to put the brunette at ease. What was supposed to be medical papers was an invite to an apparently prestigious school. He’d thought it atleast was meant for someone different, but no. That’s his name there.
Strange, but…. Exciting? Ruben hummed, finally placing the letter upon the counter. Maybe it’d be something to look into.

Has an Oranda Goldfish named Po’boy
Runs religiously. Every morning, and afternoon. Also does so when stressed out. Actually not that fond of running with others. He's not good at confronting so he'll probably quietly try to hint that he wants you to take a different route.
As said before, his arms are not his strong point, and he honestly never learned how to properly punch. (Infact, if he did try to seriously punch someone he may just end up breaking his thumb.) In combat, Ruben uses his STUNNING legs. Unless he can't, then he's so screwed.
Wears ribbons of different types all the time. Sometimes he wears then on a finger, his neck, wrist, etc. If you draw him then feel free to try different bows of different colours in different places!
For the sake of ease, In rp he will always have a poofy gold ribbon tied around his neck. [EXAMPLE HERE ]
Collects posters! His side of the room in Crowhaven is covered in many many different types of posters.
Bit miffed about the no electronics thing,,, and the no camera thing. Why?? He only listened, and left the camera at home cause he thought that maybe it'd be good for him. Typically he takes it everywhere. Now he just carries his pencil case, or other small but weighted objects around with him everywhere. It feels weird when theres nothing in his hands!
The animal that best represents him is probably a rabbit.
