"linux" is not a company, linux is just an OS made from some nice guys who love sharing, and who dont want money, because they think it should be free (not like windows)
there are so many distros because there are a lot of groups of people focusing in different things...
some distros are better for servers, other for games, other distros come with drivers, other distros give you an out-of-the-box eyecandy desktop, and well, if youre working in a game, you want something specific, and you wont join another group, so the other game will be better, dont you think?

In your personal opinion, which distro do you prefer? I've been using Ubuntu for a while and I want to know if there's anything that would benefit me personally in a different version of linux?
