How long does it take in average to make such great bento?

Corselia In reply to Ripace [2014-08-22 14:10:15 +0000 UTC]
it depends if I'm making everything from scratch or I am using left overs. Using left overs is pretty fast and doesn't take long. If from scratch I have to make everything first then assemble it so it takes the longest... anywhere from 30 mins to an hour. It helps to have a idea of what you want and how to arrange it ahead of time. I think generally most people spend about 15-30 mins?

lol, it is jasmine rice really... so it is a long grain dry rice. But you can actually mix rice with alot of different items

oh, i'm so used to the japanese sticky rice, i rarely eat anything else. i know rice can be mixed with lots of other things, i make my own fried rice and well pretty much almost all my food, i just never think of putting something on top of my rice (besides sesame seeds or furikake) when i make bento.

XD i see, normally i enjoy sticky short grain rice too. = = but mom kept getting jasmine rice. I don't remember how i came up with putting corn on rice though... I think it was because i ate a dish that was like that when i use to live in japan

you used to live in japan?! that is so awesome! my family owns our own dojo. i could count to 10 in japanese before i could english. i'm not fluent (resents parents for not making me fluent in it when i was under 7) but my whole life has been asian inspired. i'm more asian than american more than half the time, you'd just never know by looking at me.

XD yes. I've lived there a total of 11 years. I am american but i'm what you call a military brat. I lived in Okinawa and on the Mainland. I LOVE IT THERE! unfortunately I became too old to live on the base so i had to move. Its a very long story. ;A; I am only part asian but i also do not look it. A lot of people think i'm spanish tho. That is pretty cool how your family owns a dojo. Is that in the states or in Japan? XD and do not worry, i spent all my live in Japan but i STILL only know a little bit of Japanese... and i even took 2 years of the language in Highschool. XD i forgot most of it. Bad me. One day i will get back into learning it.

wow i envy you so much for being able to live there, i've never even had the chance to go. my parents have been and spent months there training at their sensei's dojo. ours is here in ohio. i was brought home in a gi made for a snoopy doll because i was so tiny... you can guess i'm a karate brat. i have no interest in it though, i've always been a creator/artist/designer. i was teaching it until last autumn when college started and i couldn't make the classes because of conflicting times. i taught for 9 years, since i was 10. i don't think i have any japanese or asian in me at all... though it's hard to think that until i look in a mirror and see someone completely different staring back at me. i don't feel caucasian i feel asian. i probably know more japanese than my parents. i know basic phrases and basic thinks like colors, directions and what not. not nearly as much as i want to though

i think that is interesting! Lately i have been thinking of joining a type of martial arts but there aren't much japanese related martial arts here where i live. There is Taiko drumming though! i might do that. But i would like to do karate not just to train my body and mind but also as a means of excersize and protection and to better myself psycologically. I dont ever join though because i tend to feel like its only classes for kids. Like there is not classes for just adults only. I think it is great that you know such even if you have no interest in it. To be able to know something like that and be able to call upon a unique skill is amazing to me. lol i feel more caucasian then asian due to the way i was raised. you should try to learn japanese using rossetta stone!

Taiko drumming?! I don't think I could ever find that around here! Oh I forgot to mention our style of karate came from Okinawa! Matsubayashi-ryu (or shoryin-ryu in chinese-we usually can it the chinese name, but I have absolutely NO idea why). Too bad you don't live near me, our dojo is separated, not only by age groups, but also by belt levels to make it as beneficial as possible to all our students. It did rub off on me a bit. I grew up around boys, so I don't take their crap. I'd love to take taiko drumming though. I know it would be so cool and so much fun! I want rossetta stone! i had another computer program, but it was all "games" to learn basic words. It really wasn't a good program. One day I will get rossetta stone though!

I was surprised that they had Taiko drumming classes here but they are located downtown where i live... thats too far for me to drive on a daily basis. LOL so your style of karate is okinawan? LOL how neat! And that sounds great how your dojo is separated by age groups and belt levels! It certainly is more organized then most of what i've read and seen here. A friend of mine from work told me he was taking Taikwando classes and he said that he had to practice with a kid half his age. I believe there is an Aikido class near the area i live but again the age group thing and i think i should look up the different types of martial art styles before i just jump into them. I definately want something that will allow me to defend myself... but i am also not very strong so i need to go for soemthing that allows me to defend myself but not necessarily force me to rely on body strength all the time. Something that uses arm and leg techniques. I should definately look up on this. both my dad and I work at places that provide rossetta stone for their employees. I have yet to access it though because only a few people can get onto the site per year... the goverment pays for a certain ammount of people to use it and pretty much its first come first serve. XD wonder if i will be able to access it?

Are you in the States? My parents know karate instructors from all over, if you tell me where you are I can ask them if they know any good schools in your area. Honestly Tai kwon Do is mainly leg work. Our style incorporates arm and leg equally. Aikido would be good for you since you don't think you're that strong. It's joint on join and very little strength is involved. I'm sure one day you'll get it! You just have to have the website, date it opens up, and time it opens up. Then you can make sure you get on right away. No guarantee you'll get it, but you'll have a much better chance!

Oh yes, i'm in the states. Im in Houston! I had heard that Aikido would be good for those who lack strength. Isn't it that it uses not strength but using your own weight and momentum in a way... like um...to overthrow your opponent? XD;;; i totoally forgot what i had read about it. it was a really old book that i once borrowed. I remember watching karate kid 1 and 2 and wanting to do just that... then after seeing Tifa from FF7 i reallllly wanted to be like her but i believe she uses more of a kick-box/boxing style? XD; not sure. LOL well finding a good place is the first step. I want to go back to school, too so i'll have to figure out how to squeeze both in my scheduel.

oh wow texas! i'll ask em if they know anyone. aikido just works joint on joint. you use their joints against them! it's not crippling pain, but it sure makes em drop! i think Tifa does more kick-boxing. oh what are you going back to school for? i'm sure you'll find a way to get it all fitted in and worked out. most school are fairly flexible. oh btw since you run bentoclub i wanted to ask you if you still needed an icon for the club. i've made one if you would like to use it.

LOL yea, I was thinking Aikido more so then any of the other ones. I would very much appreciate any info your family could give to me! I think this one would be best suited to me. LOL I had thought it was more kick-boxing. she uses her arms and legs equally and she fights just so cool. even tho she's just a game character it is still very inspiring! XD I think I might try that out once i've given myself a good foundation.
I want to go back to school because I wasn't serious when i started at 19. I either got C's or withdrew and i kept retaking this one class over and over and it was a pre-rec class. XD;;;; i quit when i was 20. i lost alot of money due to my bad decision and i think i only have 1 credit from that japanese class i took? i don't remember the grade though. I'm older now and want to get back into school before i get to that "its too late" point. Again, due to schedule... i'll have to figure out a way to go... chances are i'll be forced to take online classes. i've never had an online class and i'm most comfortable taking actual classes. It'll be a lil difficult with all my school records being in Japan. lol; but once i get registration squared away i want to get the general classes done first... then i want to transfer to the art school that is downtown. I want to be an animator or something related to drawing or 3D animation.
LOL yes it still needs a group icon. I have been having ALOT of trouble keeping up the club though. I don't want to use the original club anymore what with the group being more efficient in subbmitting deviations. Due to a newer bentoclub being posted up (which i joined) I am trying to make a little more effort to work on the group. (as well as get myself back into making bento) I don't have an icon for the group yet so if you have on already made I can use it for the group until a next one is made. just note it to me since i'm usually found on this account. I'm trying to figure out how i will use the original club though... perhaps as an information page or contest page???

I'll see if they know anyone then! Hey even if they're not real people they can inspire!
Thats a good reason to go back. I'm in my sophomore year now for digital design. i'm sure you'll be fine in it though. it can't be that hard to transfer records. it depends on the class wether it's online or not. i've never taken one though. I do a lot of work online though since i'm in an art school. if i can do it You can!
I'll upload it and send it. Either sounds good. If you have another bento club I'd love to join!

XD yes i totally agree! Game/anime characters or even movie or story characters can be very inspiring! I just think Tifa is so awesome because back then when i first played FF7 i was in middle school and i never really heard of such an awesome kickass female character. XD; course then again i might be somewhat of a sheltered child.
Yes, i'm only a quarter into my life but now i'm a bit more mature and i realize that if i don't do something NOW chances are i won't later. But now that i'm older i also realize my responsibilities with work and my dogs and bills/insurance to pay... if i'm to go back to school i has to be soon before i fall deeper into the whole 'adult' life... where you worry about everything and make money only to spend on bills. lol;;; Ahhh, getting older gets hard! XD;
XD That sounds great! LOL i don't have another bento club, just the group i made to replace the original club i had made. BUT finaly a second club has occured and its called Bentounion. lol i joined it. It kind of inspires me to try hard to keep up the bento-club.

You're not sheltered, most people feel that way. We put our hopes on something that we're not. It just so happens that characters hold our hopes better than real people >w<
yes very true. The older you get the harder it is. At least you're taking action at all! That means you care about your life. You have dogs? What are they/names? I have a cat named Tassel (she was my graduation present) and a guinea pig named Charlie.
Oh well then I'm glad I'm a member. Haha I'm the co-founder of bentounion! the founder is such a sweet girl who loves bento. i want to get more involved in it too. since it's still relatively new we're just getting people to join and what not, but I hope that we can soon hold a contest! they're much fun, and since i've never really made a themed bento or anything, i'd love to give it a try myself!

LOL yes, I suppose that is true. And yes, I realize whats in store and i do want to do something about it! I don't want to be one of those people who wait forever and regret not doing anything better with their lives. I use to have only one dog. I got him while i lived in Okinawa and i was in middle school. He was a 5 week old okinawan mutt and i got him right on valentines day! XD he is my favorite doggie in the whole world! His name is Louie! He's very old now and i fear he doesn't have many years left... 2 years ago his stomach turned and he got very sick. ;A; my poor louie. then i got Rum and Pearl and they were my newest dogs.... they are shitzu! DX but they did the hill-billy and had puppies?! I made sure to get rummy neutered after that incident but now i'm stuck with more dogs then i had wnated. DXXX lesson learned: GET YOUR PETS SPAYED AND NEUTERED ASAP! pearl had 4 puppies but 1 didn't mae it. so there were 3. one i sold to my friend who i also work with... and my mom keeps the other two puppies. and since i still live with my folks... we have 5 dogs. XAX TOO MANY DOGGIES!? So my dogs are Louie, Rum and Pearl, and the babies that my mom has are Honey bunn and Rocky.
LMAO OH I KNEW THAT!!!! So totaly did~! lmao **slaps forehead*** I'm suppose to be holding a contest but i want to make sure i have some awesome prizes to dish out. I feel that because alot of people donated a subscription to the club that they should have a contest with great prizes! I haven't made a themed bento yet either so that should be something we should really try to aim for! I bought a book about bento off of amazon but it turned out to be just a photo book. it contains 3 mini tutorials but they don't really tell you much on how to create character themed bentos as i had hoped. XD; I'll have to check out the bookstore to see if they have anything on bento because i don't want to buy a book offa amazon wihtout having looked at it.

haha thats ok! i do stuff like that all the time!i never remember who i tell what and i end up repeating myself >w<
that stinks, i mean if you wanted pictures you could have just looked online. i don't think my book store would have any bento books, but they have all number of asian cook books so i should find something that will peak my interest! you can buy something off amazon, but i'd google the book before i bought it just to make sure.

FF13 i hear starts off very slow and that you can't free wonder or shop until a good 10+ hours into the game. then it starts to pick up with all the great features that FF series is known for like free wonder and shops and random battles and treasure hunting, etc. but pretty much its hit the story and nothing else for the first number of hours of the game. I'm more into the serious type stuff and its almost like "GIRL POWER" type deal to me. uh, yeah.... lemme play that game AFTER i've finished the rest of the games i own.
