I love the pic of Samus Encounters Spore Spawn from Super Metroid done by ZEBES. Which inspired me to illustrate the final battle of Samus versus the Queen Metroid in Metroid 2.I know it wasn't the best game in the series, but it was one of the best games around on the GameBoy, and Nintendo has never re-released an updated version of it. So many of the younger gamers who have played the remakes of Metroid, have missed out on the small yet key influential event that happens in Metroid 2. Such as the introduction of the metroids evolution chain, and as most everyone knows by now, the rescuing of an infant metroid that also makes an appearance in every other Metroid sequel.
The Queen Metroid was definitely one of the coolest bosses that I've seen on my spinach green GameBoy screen. So here she is, along with Samus hand drawn, and scanned to be coloured in Photoshop. The explosion is a 3D particle explosion I've done and thrown into the image with several layers of compositing.
P.S. Yeah I know Samus doesn't find the egg until after she kills the queen, but I felt like including it in there, so I did

Nice. I wish I had my own copy of M2. I'd like to try letting the queen swallow Samus so I can kill it with bombs. Would've been nice to know what I beat it.
I think it's kinda interesting how you made the eggs look similar to those from Aliens seeing as Alien was a pretty big inspiration to the creators of Metroid.

Thanks, though she is not in true 3D here, I just used an old particle explosion I made in 3D Studio Max for the blast effect next to the queen.
Now that you mention it, I am tempted to make some of these older Metroid characters in 3D, but not until I get my other projects done with, so don't hold your breath on that one.

I've always been obsessed with the design and evolution of the metroids. I'll never forget the first time getting to the end of Metroid 2 and facing the Queen, she's not as tough to beat as Mother Brain was in the first, but visually, the Queen Metroid was a lot more cooler looking than a brain in a jar imo

Its nice to see the Original version of the Varia suit in action!
