Description
This is a piece of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that me and my friend TJ Bragg [link] did. He chiseled the designs down and did great pencil works before sending it my way and i finished it off with colors and inks. I really like the outcome of this drawing and it actually won a drawing contest in the "contest" section of the Turtles website [link]comments and constructive criticism are really appreciated!

thanks alot, yea it took a long time to put the colors all together, especially to get the right colors down pact, i wanted them to all be a different shade of green, picking the right shades was a bother, but i like how it turned out too, thanks alot for the comment!

I'm really digging this. Such an original take on the turtles - personally I like your and your friend's style much better. Great job colouring, I love the clean colours and how well they layer - the shading and textures look natural even though you're using cel-type shading.
Uhm... my only crit's the background looks like the foreground was superimposed over it - which might just be a style preference of yours, but I think it'd look a bit better if the turtles had some sort of solid shading beneath where they stood instead of the floating shadow?

thanks a ton for the comment, very nice! Yea as an art student I hear alot about grounding my characters, making sure their not looking like they are floating or falling over. This particular piece was more of a character sketch, understanding the style that we were going for, so in the end run the background was put there to enforce the turtles feel of it, and the slight shadow was put around to pop the "new and exciting" designs out from it. If their is ever a next drawing with this version of the turtles in it, it will no doubt be an action pose piece with grounded characters and more than likely a fully drawn background.

No problem. You asked for crits and it was the only issue I saw with the piece, but I thought that what you explained might be the case (as I mentioned) so - I can understand. Either way, the designs are completely awesome.
