Description A rainbowtiger for my buddy 8U!!

This isssss traditional! It's tracing paper overlaying a....paper towel. YOU SEE...

One day at work, I ended up with some overflowing ink (by the way, I hate refilling printer cartridges!), so I crammed a paper towel in there, and then...I pulled the towel out, thought it was really...pretty!? and set it on some industrial paper towels to dry. When it was dry, I picked up the regular towel (we ended up sticking it in a frame and hanging it over the ink refill machine, lulz), and then I noticed that the industrial towels had become rainbow-splotchy! ...So I took them home with me. There was this sheet, and the one underneath it, which just has smaller rainbow speckles on it, and not as interesting. I wanted to draw something that was rainbow colored to put on top of one of the towels, and I decided that rainbowtigers were probably the best. XD

*/cool story, Ghost!*

Forgetting the fact that the pose is boring (I'm still slowly practicing back up again), I'm pretty happy with this! Tracing paper takes ink a looooooooot better than I thought it would, and I like that the head is actually built like a tiger's, instead of the generic head I like to lapse into a lot. XD It's a lot more vivid in real life; scanner ate the colors, as usual.

BELATED COMMENT IS BELATED.

This should act as a lesson to myself that whenever I like something and wish to fav and/or comment on it, I should not let it sit in my inbox while an influx of other pictures proceed to bury it. And like all good lesson, I’ll probably forget it. 8I;;;

Not only do I love the colors, but the fact that it was an unintentional workplace by-product just makes it all the more awesome. I can’t imagine overflowing ink to make such awesome color designs very often.

I really thought it was interesting that this is layered with real media, too? When I first saw it, I though the rainbowtiger was just pasted over the paper towel in photoshop, so yet again backstory enhances. Epic traditional skills are also awesome.

I probably should say something about the rainbowtiger itself (yet more awesome) but I am again distracted by the WONDERFUL COLORS.

DO NOT WORRY D8 For I do the exact same thing, and so my little Deviations section gets all huge D8

Thank yooou. 8>> But you're right - in fact, mostly when all the ink overflows, all the colors mix and turn various nasty shades of brown even when I anticipate overflow and cram a paper towel in there in advance. This was like...MAGIC.
I really like how the layers turned out too. <33 and if I can remember it, I'll try it more often. *has seen some really cool paper she can put behind stuff in the scrapbooking section at the art store* I will admit that it looks better in real life though XD The top layer is more opaque.

Rorschach blot tiger? Maybe the next time the cartridges stain, you could draw the lineart around the splotches.

The background is a great match.

Hahah, the cartridges stain all the time. 8D But usually everything just turns brown immediately from the colors mixing. That's a good idea though! Thanks!

Clearly I need to overflow more ink cartridges because this is sooo coooolll~~
This is really one of the most awesome uses of mixed media I have seen ever. Those colors are so neat and a trace overlay is such a creative use of stuff and the lines are so crisp.

XDD! I don't recommend it! Unless you work somewhere that refills them, because srsly inkjet ink is messy and hard to get out of your skin. ;__;
Thank you! <33 I have a whole bunch of..scrapbook paper, with stuff printed on them. o_o I think I want to do overlay more art on top of them. <3 You should try it! Easy backgrounds that look nice as well.

Thank you! I like having patterned paper and stuff like this, but I hardly ever get motivated to go anything with it. XD

What an awesome idea! I think I might want to try something like this, if you don't mind, that is. This is a cool animal; you're very skilled at drawing cats. I envy you

Oh yeah, that's fine XDD I didn't make up this technique (I've seen it in pieces hanging in the art building at school before and have had it on my list to try it for a while now), so it's totally cool if you try it too. :> Tracing paper is nicer to use than I thought!
Also, I haven't tried to draw cat face/proportions in a long time, so I'm glad it looks good. Thanks!

COOL STORY, GHOST.

When we clean our printer, we just get globs of hardened ink that is like candle wax. :C Though, some of the globs look like aliens.

Also, really cool idea on how to use a cool story!

Corvarrow In reply to dragonrise [2009-04-02 03:36:49 +0000 UTC]

Well, we refill used cartridges at work. But it really sucks. The ink globs are normal, and some people's are way worse than others (especially when there's hair stuck in it, bleh), but..the machine isn't terribly fine-tuned, and it overfills sometimes. e_e

Thank you!

Ha ha ha! That is quite possibly the most awesome art-inspiration story I've ever heard.

Okay, well, it amused me anyway. XDDD

Also...shiiiiny! <3 *paws at*

I can't imagine what people at work thought when I took paper towel waste home with me XDDDD

*snickers* I can only pretend to imagine... XDDD

...then again, that makes me think back to what some of my past co-workers might have thought about me, considering the odd things I'd do when bored (which was often at that job...did a lot of creative things to pass the time while supposedly working...but I'd finished everything already)... ^_^;;

I like the shape of this tiger very much sooo. c:
You have very clean lines.

... I wish I could draw paws as sexy as those...

I think the lines are so clean because the original tiger, I drew in my sketchbook, not directly on top of the tracing paper. o_o I just taped the tracing paper over it and inked with some thick pens.
Eheheh, thank you! 8D I love the paws too. <3333
