Description
Future hot rods getting a little go juice!Had a neat little thunderstorm roll through at 3 A.M. Friday night so I detoured from my route to work and took a few shots up at The Hot Rod Institute. I only got three frames before the rain ended the session. I had left my tripod in the truck so I improvised by using the quick release plate as a brace for the lens and set the camera on the roof of my van, Timmy. I didn't like the angle or perspective and thought a super low angle would be cool, so I grabbed a few CD cases and set the camera on the ground with the CD cases under the lens so it had an upward angle. I managed to lose the quick release plate for my tripod after fleeing the rain and heading to work. I remember hearing this rattling noise going down the roof of Timmy when I entered the Interstate from an on ramp. and wondering what the heck that was. Two days later I walked a half mile in both directions of Interstate 90 looking for it. I didn't find the quick release plate but I did find a quarter

really cool shot! zombie frankenstein cars...
Β how you came about upping [is that even a word???] your weekly allowance by 25 cents however did take a lot of my attention away from the photo. was that intended?

Thank you Β
Β
I don't think the story was intended to draw so much attention away--just the story that went with the photo.Β I usually include something like that with my submissions as some people like to read about the how and why and the outcomes of particular shots--some folks don't

in many a Hippocampus, the 25 cents story is now tightly interwoven with your frankenstein's car shot. let's wait and see how this strong memory will change the course of mankind's future.

Thank you Bianca Β I don't mind sacrificing my QR plate so much now that I have sacrificed my keyring with all my keys
Β The Lightning Gods demand increasingly painful sacrifices it seems

I can replace you keyring
but that's about it, the gods have to be left with something

I suppose you're right but I'd rather have them take several pounds of flesh rather than my keys Β Oh well, I have a spare van and house key and I will replace the truck and company key today--I have to buy the company key since I lost it rather than breaking it off in one of their antiquated locks.
Β
I shot a lightning show last night (this is the one where I had to sacrifice my keys) that had me hiding under the truck with the camera propped on the trailer fender.Β I fired the shutter with a wired remote.Β Maybe the Lightning Gods were wanting those pounds of flesh but settled for the keys

Oh, honey, if that kind of deal was available, you'd have people running naked through the fields every time a storm hit
Wow, you really take "adventures in photography" literally, huh Ok, you have to upload at least one, since it demanded such a big sacrifice

I love the perspective... especially after reading about the lengths you went to and the loss of your quick release plate!
My brother recently left his tripod case on "Heartbreak Ridge," and when he went back several days later it was gone. Β I keep thinking there's a country western song title in there somewhere. Β But "tripod case" is so mundane. Β

Thank you Tris Β It was a small sacrifice to the Lightning Gods--unlike the sacrifice I made last night of my keyring with all my keys on it
Β Had to wake my wife up at 1 am to have her bring the spare key to my van.
Β
It would be nice if things forgotten would be right where you left them when you go back for them--unfortunately, some folks just gotta pick 'em up and carry them off.Β It sounds like your brother still has his tripod though and that's the good thing Β Of course, the Landscape Gods demand sacrifices too and maybe they needed a tripod case
Β

Uh oh. Β Losing a keyring is the worst.
As for the tripod case, what a person, landscape god or animal would do with one is a complete mystery. Β Perhaps someone turned it in to a lost and found and we're just not clever enough to check that avenue out. Β
