Orthos goes by many a title. The Chains Of Hell, The Soul-Hunter, The Spirit Warden. But his most famous name is undoubtedly The Devourer. For those who defy fate know only one fate- to be devoured by one of his twin maws.

He does not decide the fate of souls, nor does he guide the dead to their final resting place. Instead, his task is one, that while it is gruesome, is deeply necessary. Those who try to escape their ultimate fate will soon find themselves hunted by Orthos. He can travel across various spiritual realms in order to pursuit his target. Even the spirits of gods, in their isolated realms, are not safe from his chase, for he can sniff out any soul.

Orthos is extremely heavy and strong, and can pin down his targets with ease. Though he may be brutal and unforgiving, Orthos is a reasonable individual, and if the spirit willingly gives up and goes to their appropriate realm, he will pardon them. He may be a harsh judge, but he rarely resorts to needless violence. Those who do not comply, however, have to be eliminated. Orthos grabs their souls, and swallows it whole, where it is painfully incinerated into pure soul energy inside his stomach, which is described as an endless forge of green fire, where unruly souls are destroyed, and used to fan the flames. His blood is like fire, and he carries a fierce judgement for those who would deny death.

He is the enemy of all undead (especially those who choose undeath willingly) but cannot destroy them, for he is bound to the realm of spirits. Only if he could ascend to godhood and gain his own physical form would he be able to exact his judgement upon them. That dream seems far... but for each unlawful soul Orthos devours, he comes closer to the might of his masters, a true god in his own right.
