Regarding "they suck": To be fair, they each had their own reasons for being so mean to the dragonets.

Kestrel was forced to kill her own son and for seven years after that, she thought her daughter was dead. That was why she hated the idea of raising dragonets and hesitated when she was ordered to kill Glory, after she lost her own dragonets. All it did was remind her of Peril and Ember.

Dune was mauled by Burn and nearly died.

Webs wasn't there for his wife when she was killed.

I'd be bitter and hate the world too if I went through any of the things they did.

Webs was still bad, just the least bad. I really with Hvitur and Asha were alive to raise the dragonets.
