Description I saw Rise of the Guardians last week, and oh my gosh, I had to get started on this right away.

I plan to Cosplay Jack Frost for one of the days of Ichibancon in Charlotte NC.

I couldn't find a good method to paint his hoodie, so I came up with my own. I also plan to add glitter nailpolish (not mentioned in the tutorial, due to the fact I have yet to test it) over some of the frost areas to help add that extra sparkle.

This is my first tutorial, and it's a fairly simple concept. Hopefully it can encourage you all to try it, because I know I tend to get scared when I put paint to a garment I don't want to ruin. Also, this costume should be done at the end of December, only due to the fact that the wig I want is on backorder (they assure me it should be in my possession before the first weekend of Ichi, if not, then oh well!) and things like that. At least I can finish the outfit and staff (which will get started next week once I get home!

Thanks for this~! I'm planning and I say planning very loosely :I on doing a Fem!Jack Frost to one of the conventions I'm going to and all of the pre-made Jack Frost Hoodies are up in the $70-80 range, so I was looking to make my own. This is going to help a lot, thanks! C:

Glad i could help. I spent maybe 10 dollars for this? So with some time, it can definitely pay off.

Silver? Not white?
What do you personally think would make it look real?

CosmicalFox In reply to KyuremGirl [2012-12-19 15:19:01 +0000 UTC]

The silver paint catches the light better in my opinion. I have been debating on going back over some of the stronger frost marks with white though.

As far as realism goes, this is not it. I am merely attempting to mimic the style in the movie in a way that someone who views the costume will understand.

Wow, this looks really nice! I wanna make one sometime
One question though, do you know if the acrylic paint you're using is waterproof?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CosmicalFox In reply to ThisNinjaGoesMoo [2012-12-19 15:25:47 +0000 UTC]

Most acrylic paint won't wash out of clothes.

However you could always try heat setting it to be careful (I'm positive that the paintpen was designed for use on T-shirts, so I'm confident that won't come out).

Hi!!! Thanks so much for sharing! I'm doing a Jack Frost hoodie too, but some things I needa clarify:
1. Is the paint pen you used just a generic paint pen, or is it for fabric?

2. If its just a generic paint pen like mine, will it stay of you put it in the washing machine?

Thanks! This tutorial was the most helpful out of all on the Internet!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CosmicalFox In reply to drawmemaybe [2012-12-14 16:56:57 +0000 UTC]

I used both actually. My generic paint pen died halfway through, so I bought one for t-shirt use. I imagine if you heat set it, it should stay (I'm kind of thinking it will stay anyway, however I haven't worn or washed my hoodie yet).

Thanks so much for the compliments!

This is amazing! How much of the jacket did you do? Like, did you do the hood and stuff?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CosmicalFox In reply to norahs60 [2012-12-03 23:02:07 +0000 UTC]

I'm going to be doing the collar (both front, and back which is shown here), the hood (which I'm halfway done with), the edges of the pocket, the shoulders, and the sleeves. It's a slow going work in progress, since it's finals week.

Theres stuff called 'textile medium' mix it in with your acyrlic paint and it turns it into fabric paint.

CosmicalFox In reply to cupcakebunnyxox [2012-12-03 05:48:16 +0000 UTC]

I don't see why it wouldn't be. Both acrylic paint and paint pen don't come out of clothing.

i would suggest actually using fabric paint, and then be sure to iron it before finish
