The Chasm's entrance beckoned, with all its bright, twisted landscape... but Sage was on a different mission today. The worlds beyond the Chasm itself were unique, and he wanted to learn their secrets, too! He made himself let his mind wander as he walked into the rift, tricking himself into thinking of the strange plants found on Nskanetis, the bright skies, and lush foliage nigh unheard-of in his home... and suddenly, those details were before his eyes, almost before he processed the shiver that ran down his spine and prickled along his skin, from his core to his toes. Sage gawked at the lush landscape, trees towering over his head and grass soft beneath his paws. It took him several seconds to take it all in, before he could gather his wits enough to pull out his notebooks- flipping past the pages of mangled Chasm notes with a bit of a grimace- and begin drawing and writing his observations. He was so caught up, he barely noticed the rustling in the undergrowth behind him.

"I tell ya, we're lost and only gettin' lost-er," Knox drawled, leaning heavily on Dealanaich. "Can't still be in the forest, 's too damn warm." The grey amoux was clearly somewhat inebriated, and Dean rolled his eyes and cast a glance to his other blue companion. Cloud shook her head but said nothing, keeping her eyes off the drunk. Behind them, Raveri's rumbling laugh sounded loud above their heads.
"An' what's funny to you?" Knox turned sharply, losing his grip on Dean and wavering slightly before finding his footing. The semi-aquatic indominus shook her plated head, her perpetual grin seeming to get wider. "You. Staggering around and blaming others. Just so... Foolish." Raveri chuckled again.
"How dare you- I'm-" Knox puffed out his chest, spluttering with indignation, but Raveri stepped half- over and half- around him and continued on her path.
"No time to fight. Things to find." Raveri said, bored. Cloud followed her, keeping out of the way of her massive feet. Dealanaich caught Knox on his way into a slump, and steered him along the others' footprints.
"We can debate later," he sighed. "We agreed to work together today. Can we, please?" From ahead of them, Cloud echoed, "Please?" in her quiet way.
Knox grumbled something about being a commander, but conceded to trundle along with them.

"There!" Nasuta called, pointing down into the lush jungles with her foot. "That looks like somewhere we can land."
"Oh good," Blackbreak sighed. "I'm so tired. How many days have we been flying for??"
"Ten minutes," the green dergon said dryly, then dove down to the forest clearing, leaving Blackbreak blinking in surprise for a moment, before she followed.
"Ow!" The dark dergon yelped, landing harshly beside the green.
"Be careful," Nasuta chided. "We're not here to break bones. At least, not our own." She hopped around, poking her snout in the grass as a cursory search, before sniffing around and deciding where the best place to find interesting things would be. "This way," she chirped, hopping around Blackbreak- still untangling herself from her crash- and disappeared in the thick foliage.

A quiet, but distinct "Ow!" roused Sage from his deep study. He looked around in confusion, spotting something large- two somethings large, in fact- moving very strangely through the trees.
"Hello?" he called, chiding himself immediately for assuming he'd encounter something sapient, even moreso that they'd understand him. The shapes stopped, either way, and he braced himself for a confrontation- curses, why must he be so bad at fighting?- but what poked out of the trees was a dark head shorter than his shoulder, with bright blue-gray eyes, and a curious expression. Sage carefully began drawing, not making any sudden movements, but the creature didn't seem too concerned by his motion, hopping oddly towards him. As it approached, Sage stared in awe and slowly stopped his notes, desperately trying to wrap his mind around the anatomy of the thing. One leg, three-?! oddly placed asymmetric wings, yet it moved like it was born that way. Sage blinked in confusion, then resumed his drawing and notes with fierce determination, craning his neck to get a better view of the thing.

The four amoux pushed through the trees, at a strange pace with Blue Cloud leading, Raveri menacingly hot on her heels, and Dealanaich supporting Knox at a straggling pace, much to the feathered raptor's annoyance.
"What in blazes 's that there?" Knox suddenly pulled away to tromp through the brush, leaning against a tree at the edge of a clearing. There, among the grass, were several weird things- a centaurish bear creature a light shade of spruce, and a dark almost-dragon, with something off about their anatomy.
Behind Knox, Cloud squeaked and whispered something to Dealanaich, who patted her shoulder. "You can stay in the trees, if you'd like. We do need branches and sticks." Cloud nodded, and backed up, but bumpeed into Raveri's leg, causing her to shrink back and whimper even more. Raveri raised an eyebrow as the furred raptor skittered off between a few trees.
"What's with her?" she asked, but Dean shrugged. They pushed to the edge of the clearing, observing for a minute- until Raveri decided none of them were a threat and walked forward boldly, knocking aside the smaller amoux, and immediately being distracted by motion in the grass. The other two looked at each other, Knox from an inelegant pose on the ground.

"Over here!" Blackbreak called proudly, hopping up to her new friend. "Found something!" She stuck her snoot out to see what the Ixi was writing, cocking her head to try and read his notebooks.
"Hiya!" She said finally, looking up into his astounded face. "I'm Blackbreak!"
"Sageamilos... Call me Sage..." the creature said, looking rather faint. Behind Blackbreak, Nasuta came hopping out of the bushes, and pecked Blackbreak on the hip.
"Ow! What's that for?" Blackbreak frowned.
"Go find things!! We're here for rocks and mushrooms, not... Whatever you are," Nasuta trailed off, finally noticing the all of Sage.
"I'm an Ixi," he said bluntly.
"All the same!" Nasuta shook her head frills. "Not here for you." She turned away, prodding Blackbreak around.
"I'hm finhingh fhingsh!!" Blackbreak mumbled, through a mouthful of small stones she'd picked up. She gulped audibly, and looked rather uncomfortable as she dropped the rest of the rocks. "...I ate one."
Nasuta rolled her eyes and started picking up the dropped rocks. She noticed that Sage was still taking notes, and she sighed. "Blackbreak, keep looking. DON'T eat anything else!!" She hopped over to entertain the strange creature, certain he wouldn't let them gather in peace without asking questions.
"...What about lunch?" Blackbreak called uncertainly, but Nasuta ignored her.

Sage watched the dergons flounder around in confusion and disbelief, not sure he was on the right world after all. "Are... you from Nskanetis?" he asked uncertainly.
"Is that what this place is?" The green dragon looked around. "Must have gotten lost. I'm Nasuta, by the way."
"Sage... What are you?" he asked, poised to write even as he sketched her face.
"Dergons. Me and Blackbreak both."
Sage leaned over to peer at Blackbreak, who seemed to still be swallowing rocks. "...Is she okay?"
"Is she-? HEY! NO MORE EATING ROCKS!!" Nasuta snapped, bending swiftly to pick up a clod of earth and launch it in Blackbreak's direction, striking her on the wing.
"Ow! It's a different kind of rock! Gotta taste it," Blackbreak grumbled.
"Ignore her. She's just like that." Nasuta shook her head.
Sage was distracted from his writing by Nasuta looking past his shoulder and the crack of a branch, and he turned to see a massive dark beast entering the clearing, easily twice his size. "What is that," he whispered, struck with fear from its immense slicing jaws.
"No idea," Nasuta whispered back, shivering slightly.
Blackbreak, however, noticed and went hopping up as the creature bent to observe a patch of grass.

"Hi! I'm Blackbreak!" a chipper voice sounded in front of Raveri. The massive indom looked up in confusion, finding the creature from earlier right in front of her, seemingly without fear.
"Raveri... What are you doing?" She asked in confusion. She was used to creatures cowering in fear before her, like the other two were properly doing. This was new, this... introduction.
"Looking for things. I had some rocks, but I ate... most of them." Blackbreak stuck out her tongue, showing granules of sand on its blue surface. "Who are they?" she asked, looking past Raveri's massive legs.
"Friends of mine," the indominus rumbled. "Knox. Dealanaich. Blue Cloud off in the trees somewhere, scaredy-moux."
Blackbreak hopped over to the raptors in the trees, met with looks of bewilderment. "Hi! I'm Blackbreak!" She said happily.
"Dean..." Dealanaich said, tilting his head in confusion. Knox blinked several times in confusion, then raised his flask and took a long drink. He blinked again, more focused somehow, and stepped forward uncertainly, patting Blackbreak's side.
"Well, I'll be," he said, slinging an arm over her shoulder. "You're just the perfect height, aren't you. Dean, boy, you go on, I'll stay here," he said, waving his flask.
Dean backed up slightly, and nodded, venturing into the clearing. Looking back, Cloud had apparently scoured the area, and come up with several sturdy-looking branches. He waved her over, but she simply stared, until he walked over to a large rock and began searching around it, and Knox and Blackbreak wandered off, the dergon quite entertaining the amoux with her hopping gait as he tried to use her for support.
Cloud quietly wandered over to Dean and helped with the stone, looking rather reproachfully at him.
"I know, I know. New people," Dean said quietly. "They all seem to be getting along, though." The two examined the underside of the rock, unfortunately attracting Raveri's attention when a large centipede got flung into the air. The indom caught it and moved on, luckily, sniffing around clumps of grass, and Sage's tail. Nothing got bitten however, aside from some bugs, much to everyone's relief.
Soon there was a small pile of sticks, rocks, and weird flowers, added to by the entire group.

Nasuta had done a fair bit of gathering and chatting, but the sun was getting low. Blackbreak had found several friends, but the two had a ways to travel.
"Come on," Nasuta said, nudging Blackbreak away from an attempted conversation with Raveri, who was intent on breaking apart a log, for fun or perhaps profit. "We've got things to do."
"Awww," Blackbreak whined. "But I was making friends..."
"No you weren't," Raveri grumbled, then bit a massive section of the log off. Blackbreak blinked at the destructive force.
"Ok, let's go!" She said, hopping away easily.
The two took one last look at the assembled creatures. Sage stood up as they gathered their things, tucking his notebooks back into his pockets. "I'd better go to. I have a strange journey, I need to go before I get too tired." He began meandering off, to a sliver of sky between two trees that seemed a wildly different color, but neither the dergons nor amoux troubled themselves over it.
Dean and Cloud gathered their branches and rocks, with Raveri trundling along begrudgingly with Knox in her arms, as he'd passed out a few minutes ago.
As the groups left, the clearing was still again, with only footprints to show they'd ever been there.
