Description
Look! An epic molten space volcano!I started painting this as a background for the video game I'm working on (Dominus Galaxia: dominusgalaxia.com/ ) but I didn't break it up into different layers and it was going to be way too bright so I figured I'd submit it as a personal work. I was pretty impressed with the feel of it.
The lighting was intended to be caused by the clusters of orange stars around the nebula, rather than a single bright light source.
It was all painted on one layer from the beginning.

I'm terribly sorry, I purchased several other of your actual stock pieces and thought this was part of the bunch, again I am so sorry.

They are pretty standard colors but I did my best to do them well

This one seems to have some kinetic energy to it! I can see it roaring through the cosmos like a cloudy asteroid...I especially love the light at the tip and how it burns against the blue.

At joeyjazz's suggestion I used more flowing strokes in this one.

I think it looks more turbulent in some areas, which is cool.

it's very detailed, very realistic too. I find it looks like the "pillar of creation"

Hey, this seems to be encountering a brightness problem when seen online, ie its too dark compared to when seen in photoshop, i have run in to this problem too, you need to resave it without any embedded colour profiles to get it to show properly!
Nice work btw.

do you see this problem on my other images? I saved this one the same way I do all of my work. I will do some experimentation when I get home, thanks for the heads up.

I just noticed this looks brighter in Chrome than IE. Saving the image to the PC I found that the IE version looked accurate whereas Chrome does not. Calibration is a nuisance!

Also noticed on Amethyst , Kindling and Organic Starscape . However I do not see it on Amphitheatre of True Glory .

Which version of chrome are you using? When I checked with my chrome it looks fine, it has to do with embedded color profiles. So annoying -_-

Wow, looks amazing. Only one thing - missing light coming from left up corner to shine on nebulas. Both are high enlightened, but there is dark in that corner.

cosmicspark In reply to Fug4s [2016-01-12 17:35:23 +0000 UTC]
its a little bit overkill, but the lighting was intended to be partly from those orange stars, and party from other stars that are covered by darker clouds in the upper left.

I would say that those are rim lights that appear when an object is lit from behind, so the actual light source is hidden by the clouds

True, but given that he called it a "space volcano", the nebula is likely illuminated from within? Still from a first look point of view, you're right.
