Description
A world away from the already bizarre norm, the Deep Realm wilds are an imposing challenge to the explorers of Hiraeth and her neighbouring realms. Forests grow from the skeletons of primordial beings, brambly thickets spread like fire and engulf the hills, water flows backwards into clouds, great glaciers border a desert of sand and snow, and ruins from far off worlds are dropped here to crumble and be forgotten. Demons make their home in this topsy-turvy world, banding together in wandering tribes, not too different from how Hiraeth folk live. Just as there are folk here, there are also beasts who inhabit and colour this land, adapting and flourishing in the surreal. Vumilundo are among these creatures, skipping between arching vines and old bones, looking for flower buds to pluck and tiny critters to scarf down. From afar, they don’t look too dissimilar to an animal one could find in Hiraeth, but a closer look reveals their second head lining their stomach. Multiple heads aren’t uncommon to Hiraeth beasts but the layout of the Vumilundo can be somewhat off-putting.
These two heads often bicker over food, taking turns tugging their body about until they are running around in circles and rolling down hills. The top head prefers to take things slow and peck about for food, while the bottom head want to lunge and devour larger creatures with their toothy maw. Thankfully for them, they seem immune to pain from falling as their rival antics often result in them flying off great heights by accident— they may chip a horn or a tooth but they never seem to sustain serious injury. When nothing is around to tempt the bottom head, they are quite peaceful creatures, but sometimes the top head falls asleep and their stomach goes off hunting unbeknownst to their partner. Demons respect the Vumilundo for devouring pests and nipping dangerous flora before it grows wild, and sometimes demon caravans keep a few around as companions, but there is a secret about them they don’t know. Vumilundo have been known to speak to Hiraeth folk, regardless of magical ability, but for whatever reason they don’t talk when Demons are around. Both heads have a distinct voice and have been known to try to help travellers in their realm by giving advice or directions, but both heads always disagree and any attempt at guidance becomes an unintentional riddle to solve. While their motives are unclear, some think it is to enhance their likability as pets so they can gain protection and easy food, but it could also be an extra quirk of their innate nature to be confusing at all times.

A creature that runs around like a chicken with it's head cut off because it has two heads. Very clever. I want one.
