Description

The Basilisk was developed early in the Great War to counter the rapidly improving armored capabilities of rival nations.

At the time, the first version of the Kobold hover tank still held its place of the backbone of Großer Deutschland's armored force and its armament was proving insufficient for many of the new emerging threats. While the Schildkröte heavy hover tank was still capable of defeating even the heaviest enemy armor, its per unit production cost was too high to produce en masse. As such, the Basilisk was intended as a stopgap measure, sporting a heavy long range plasma cannon while utilizing the tried and true Luftpanzer II chassis.

Though the design was a success, the Luftpanzer II power plant was never intended to support such a heavy weapon's system and as a result maneuverability was hampered. Later versions of the Panzerjaeger II addressed this issue with improved power generation systems and heavier thrusters, though these variants were rare.
