The Protective Solutions Model 12 helmet was designed to provide full head protection to the user as well as a basic respirator, hearing protection, and an integrated heads-up-display.
The helmet was composed of two main sections that could be worn independently of each other. The lower section contained the respirator, hearing protection, and face protection. The upper section was composed of the helmet and integrated heads up display. Visibility for the user was augmented heavily with the heads-up-display that provided provided an unimpeded field of view. In the event of electronics or HUD failure, the armored section around the eyes could be removed by pressing the locking tabs on the sides. The respirator was a simple fan-assisted system that by default only contained a dust filter. Heavier filters could be added based on need. The setup, however, was not air tight, limiting the helmet's applications in certain hazardous environments. Ballistic protection was notable, being better than both the Earth Union MkIII and the Novian "Loaf" helmets.
The United Trade Coalition equipped large numbers of their security forces with the helmet where it saw use in anti-piracy and peacekeeping operations. The M12 also saw use by the advisors within the Unified Dominion Armed Forces.
