the armor is definitely the best part by far, legit looks like actual steel also how do you do such detailed backgrounds! Β

Well, I always used to never want to do them, but I've seen soooo many posts about how noone likes doing backgrounds, so I figured "might as well at least give them a shot", so I just kinda.. Started making a point to do them. I know "just practice" isn't exactly the best answer to your question, but it's the best I got. I will say that a lot of the times just doing vague, colorful shapes gets the idea across well enough, I didn't put a lot into the background on the troll I did a bit back, but I still think it looks good. Just practice drawing backgrounds the same way you practice drawing.. Well, anything else. And obviously use reference.Β
I know that was a rambly mess, but hopefully there's something in there that helps you. I'm really still learning, myself.

Hey, you're welcome. And no, there isn't, but the important thing for me was realizing that it's really not that difficult to begin with. It seems really daunting, even now, but really the hardest part is making sure the colors all look good together.

the hardest part for me is shading and blending colors! Aghhhhh I'm so bad!!!Its like I either don't know what brushes to use or I'm just bad at it or something! its super frustrating bc I know what I'm doing wrong but not super sure how to fix itΒ

Shading's not even remotely my strongsuit, either. As for blending.. I dunno, I kinda got there on accident. Everything I figured out there I figured out from, like.. Taking black and white photos and more or less coloring them in? Like use whatever colors you like, but try to make it dark where it's dark and light where it's light.Β

This is a sloppy way to show you, but this is what I mean, if it helps. I just made the original photo the bottom layer and went to town.

I had a couple of classes today, but not really anything else going on, I just felt like drawing. Though the sketches were already done, so I guess that cut off a bit of time.

It helps. If you ever wonder why most of mine are a little lopsided, it's because I pretty much just have to draw the pencil sketch then take a crappy phone picture, to get it on my computer.

well you could say that the "lopsidedness" gives it "character" you get the pull out the artistic license on that oneΒ I always do my sketch on the computer, I didn't know that you could actually sketch something out on paper and then upload it onto the computer, probably would make the drawing look better bc anything digital art is hard!
