Description ...And all the Sith's skills and all the pit droids couldn't put poor Maul back together again... (...or could they???)

So that's how it happened. Well, it's better than Clone Wars' explanation. "My hatred sustained me..." Yeah, that's what you write when you can't think of an explanation for how someone bisected at the waist survives a bottomless pit... when the real answer to how he survived was, "Well, had to sell more action figures."

Sorry for my cynicism... as much as I like the Darth Maul storyline that emerged in Clone Wars the explanation for his survival was really lazy... I do like your setup!

Yep, I really do wish they had a better in-universe explanation.  I think everyone watching the show was curious as to the specifics of his survival, and yet they couldn't even animate a 10 second flashback or something.  Instead they choose to reveal how he survived in a comic called "Sith Hunters" and a book called "The Wrath of Darth Maul."  Now, I love comics and novels, but something this important should have been show on screen.

Yeah the whole hatred=immortality angle is weak even when reading it on Wookieepedia:

"Flinching in shock and pain, Maul fell backwards into the shaft in silence, his two halves separating.  However, Maul managed to survive his defeat at the hands of Kenobi. Through his hate and will to live, as well as his hatred against Kenobi, he reached out with the Force and grabbed an air vent.[3]  He went down the reactor shaft and landed in water. The Sith Lord was then dumped into a container, which was taken to Lotho Minor. As he lay submerged, he fell into unconsciousness, cursing Kenobi."

You're right; it sounds a bit too "convenient" for me, and out of all the things to explain, they should have at least attempted to depict his method of survival on the show.  Would it not be weird to watch Episode III and have it end right after Vader is burning in the lava, and then watch Episode IV and see Vader walking around in a mechanical suit choking people?   Of course it would.  We get to see Palpatine arrive on his shuttle, pick Vader up, and take him to Coruscant for emergency surgery. Those crucial scenes give his survival a sense of believability that Maul's survival lacked.  Maul's character was depicted well on the show, but they honestly failed to connect film Maul with TV Maul in a strong way.

Yeah. If he had been resurrected somehow by the Nightsisters, I'd have bought that. They clearly have knowledge of the force that the Jedi and Sith don't. That would have been easily explained away. Or hell, even if they claimed that Zabrak anatomy is different enough from human anatomy that nothing too vital was cut off.

The insulting part was hearing interviews with the creators claiming that everyone complaining about it are just being silly. Something along the lines of, "No one thinks he could survive losing both legs, but Anakin lost all his limbs and survived. You're all stupid." They never acknowledge that he lost more than his legs...
